I finally bought an HD set last month. (I had an HD DVR and had just been paying the $6 HD enabling fee until i actually bought an HD set.)

I got it all hooked up and called Dish Customer service. I asked if I could have the Free HD for 6 months deal that was being advertised. "Sure. No problem"

HD was turned on immediately. Fast forward a month. I get the bill, and guess what? I'm charged for HD.

I called in and the CS rep says it's only for new HD subscribers. I explain the deal to her and that the CS rep said I could have it since I didn't have HD programming before. I get hung up on.

I call back in... same thing... you can't have the deal. I tried to speak logically and calmly to the lady... she just kept spitting out the same line about me not being a new HD subscriber.... like talking to a brick wall. I asked to speak with her supervisor. She goes away for a few minutes and then, get this... the same lady comes back on and now says she is the supervisor. I told her I know it's her still. Silence.

She offers to give me $40 credit for my "trouble."

I ask her if that's the standard payout amount for lying to customers.... it went downhill from there.

Basically, I guess I cannot trust anything they tell me anymore.

Yikes.

How long did you have an HD DVR without an HD TV?? Why would you have an HD receiver and no HD TV??

The free HD is available to current customers too. I upgraded from a 625 to the 722 and am currently recieving the promotion.

He probably wanted the dvr and to future proof since he expected to get an HDTVsoon.

Yep, my guess is he didn't want to get caught in a situation where he couldn't upgrade his receiver since it hadn't been a year. Pretty smart if you know you are buying a HD TV soon.

Yep, I signed up for Dish a few months ago, knowing I would be getting a Black Friday type deal on a HD set.

They would have rather spent money upgrading equipment I already had than just giving me the 6 months of free HD.

I ended up downgrading from top 250 to top 200. The Science Channel was the only channel in that extra tier I watched, and 90% of the shows on there come on the Discover Channel.

So I saved a little $ to offset the extra fee for HD.

Live and learn, I guess. A talking CS rep is a lying CS rep.

Yep, same here. I've had the 622 since March and the 811 since Dec 03 before that - but no HD set. I've always just enjoyed the clarity of the digital locals on my previous 35 inch analog (plus a few of the digital 'gems' - 24 weather 7 day forcast) you get with OTA digital. But I finally got HD this past Sunday (Samsung LNT4661F) and it was worth the wait.
