BOSTON (AP) — The World Series ball is gone, and Jonathan Papelbon has an excuse: My dog ate it. Farfetched or not, that's what the Red Sox closer insists happened to the souvenir from the final out of Boston's sweep this year.

Really, Papelbon blamed it on his bulldog, Boss.

"He plays with baseballs like they are his toys," Papelbon told the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American. "He jumped up one day on the counter and snatched it. He likes rawhide. He tore that thing to pieces. Nobody knows that. I'll keep what's left of it."

I've noticed that before with charters news as well as local broadcast news stations taking upwards of 2 weeks to air something that was on cnn already.

The article it is based on was published on the 20th and widely reported on the 21st I don't think that any of us heard of it before that.

But I think the original new was out prior to that, either that or I heard about it every 5 minutes and it seemed like it had been out forever...

edit: After looking into this some, I thought it was from my Sporting News, which I get on Thurday's, would have been reported prior to that, but after looking into it, it was not from TSN, so the 20th does look right, it just seems like a long time ago in days.
I've been on vacation so maybe that has something to do with it.

If he sells it on ebay he is a fool. I don't doubt that he will try to amke money on it but hopefully he has a better plan.

Hell, How would you know it was the WS ball or not ?
Do they have the WS logo and date on them ?

How do you know that alot of palyers in the game don't have WS balls sitting around, I'm sure some got taken home for soveniers...

Is there anyway to really know ?

Good question. I do believe the balls used in the world series are so marked. I have no idea how they would differentiate one ball from another in that game, maybe they're numbered?
