Hi!

Forgive me, because I'm sure I missed this information on the site but I've searched around and couldn't find it.

I'm wondering when the new satellite(s?) are planned to go up for E*? I realize that it could change but the latest estimates would be fine. What can we expect that to give us (catching up with the HD nationals D* has? local HD's? or something else?)? Also, what do you think the time frame would be from satellite going up to channels going live?

If there is a another thread with all this info, posting a link to it would be fine. Thanks so much in advance!

New Sats are supposed to go up one during each quarter of the year, with the first one scheduled for early to Mid March (pending 1 more successful launch by SeaLaunch).

Not sure on the rest of your questions.

Geoff

1)Amc 14 is going up in March to replace Echostar 3 at 61.5 ,so it can be used elsewhere.

2)Echostar 11 will go up in June to replace either Echostar 8 or 6 at 110 slot. One to be used for a spare at 110 and the other freed up to be used elsewhere.

3)Ciel sat going up last quarter (Oct-Dec) to be use at 129 to replace echostar 5 -so they can junk that crappy satellite.

4)The other satellite is for a CHinese company to be used in China and has nothing to do with DISH and it will be launched in the Third quarter ( July-Sept).

Sea Launch turnaround time is ~8 weeks launch to launch. They just launched on the 15th of January, so do the math :)

Cheers,

Lets get to the bottom line here. Will the next Sat launch allow Dish to offer new HD? Or are we going to have to wait until 4th qtr?

I don't know anymore. I listened to the sat guys radio show today and Scott is now saying that the AMC 14 sat will now be going up around late April or early May , give it 45 days for testing and then were looking at late June or July before it is up and running. IF this is true then the entire time line will be pushed back even further.

I have decided now after listening to this that I will add Directv hd to my home on the 31st. I have an hd dvr coming and the slim line dish. I will sub to the dvr hd plus pack and maybe the extra hd pack for 4.99 more. I can pay for it out of my Forced OVertime I have to work at the state. THis way I can get the most hd NOW and I won't have to worry as much as to when the DISH sats will add more hd. I am going to WATCH HD . I will probably cut back on my DISH account programming and but keep my dvrs as they still have ota access and the new hd dvr from Directv doesnot yet. THis is important to my area since Directv doesn't have hd locals for my area yet, just sd.

IF you want more hd now I would advise you to look into possibly adding Directv too for hd . I won't give up on DISH but I am not going without hd channels that I really want anymore. IF DISH stays behind like this most of this year I will have to reconsider my subscription to DISH and go completely with DIrectv. I can always " move" to Houston with my Directv account and get the hd channels I want . I will post what I find in the new dvr and the differences and whether I like the picture, etc.
