So? Just because it's a big name doesn't mean you have to take the job. This reminds me of when Notre Dame fell off under Gerry Faust in the 1980s- their name and tradition were not enough. I don't care if it's Kentucky- no tradition is worth the risk.

If you ask Billy Gillespie, he made the biggest mistake of his life. He was better off in the no-pressure situation of College Station.

Why does everyone think that because Gillespie didn't win it all or get to the FF that everyone wanted him out. It wasn't that at all. The MAIN reason they wanted him gone was because he couldn't handle being the main guy at a school that the fans want to embrace him and want him to come to events and be the guy who shows he loves the school he is at. He is a person that stays to himself and the AD should have seen that from the beginning and in my opinion the AD should be fired too.

I am sure they would have looked past it, just because he was winning. I don't think though that he was the right fit from the beginning and said that. I don't think I ever said they should have gotten rid of Tubby.

You showing love for the Tubster? You sure you're not a Louisville fan? Here's what I want to know. I thought Calipari to Kentucky made perfect sense 2 years ago! Why did Kentucky not pursue him then? They would have saved themselves a lot of trouble had they gotten Cal after Tubby left.

Most if not all of these traditional powers have gone through some lean years. Look at Indiana right now. But I'm not about to diss the Hoosiers.

They haven't made it to the Final Four in a decade- they have been coming up short ever since.

I'm not completely ready to call them a has-been- I acted in anger about the thought of Calipari going there.

Personally, I was thinking about it, and I was simply referring to some things they haven't done.

They haven't made a Final Four since 1998, and are 0-3 in Regional Finals since then. (Haven't made the sweet 16 in four years, which is like a lifetime for some UK fans)

My interpretation of "has-been" is a bit different- a big-name power that has not truly gotten all the way back to the Holy Grail since they won their 1998 national title. (They have had their chances to regain the title since, and have come up a bit short.)

I'll admit it- I've never been a fan of Kentucky.

You know how some programs have a "love them or hate them" mentality? For me, Kentucky falls under that category.

They are like the Cowboys are to football fans or Notre Dame and USC to college football- there are people who like them, but not everyone is supposed to like them.

The reason I got upset over this news/possibility is that I feel bad for when fans see coaches of a successful smaller-school go to a bigger-name.

For instance, how do you think Aggie fans felt when Gillespie left in 2007?

And remember when Urban Meyer was courted by Notre Dame in 2004? If the Irish had successfully gotten him, imagine the pain of Utah fans

That's how Memphis fans would feel if this happens.

Also, I've grown to like the Tigers under Calipari- I wouldn't want to see them regress to their pre-Calipari status.

After all, Memphis' Grizzlies have not been very good recently- the Tigers are Memphis' best team.

True, but when every great program goes through tough times, a lot of people who falls under the "hate" in "love them or hate them" will knock them when they're down.

When the Yankees fell apart in the late 1960s, a lot of baseball fans took glee in seeing them among the ordinary.

I'm sure you were thrilled when the Steelers fell on hard times in the 1980s and late 90s.

What I am trying to say is, when a great power in a sport falls on hard times, fans of other teams will want to sing ""Ding Dong, the Witch Is Dead.
