I don't want to incur anybody's wrath here for making delayed references, but I love Lubbock, TX mentioned a few posts ago. Just had to say that. I enjoyed being there. Website forums bring back memories of places just like watching distant local programming is entertainment and you may like news and programming from the places they come from.
I want everything. I wish I could receive both the western arc with international and the eastern arc at the same time. More antennas is better. More antennas equal redundancy. One of the satellites or many could fail or be lost. Did anybody see the movie Gravity? I like having satellites. The dream is a television provider that can give you more, and so far Dish has been that provider for me. The distant network situation is disappointing. Forget syndication if it means no distants.
The "locals" I receive are on 129 and I have international programming. There are obstructions to my line of site for each of these orbital locations anywhere on my property. Dish has had to work miracles for me just to get me reception of these positions. I have an unobstructed view of eastern arc because I used to have a wing dish that was later not needed but my locals aren't on there.
When it comes to satellite I enjoy receiving locals but I am able to receive them with an antenna. It is technologically possible with satellite to transmit distant network signals and I would enjoy their reception.
I'll see how it turns out. I am optimist but may have to be a realist depending on what happens.
Are distants receivable free to air? No distants even for certain exceptions like trucks or RVs? Hate to say the same thing over and over again but I am very interested in what is happening.

I wish I had western arc and eastern arc similar to like what the person's situation has been that was referred to from Lubbock. I know I am crazy but to me more antennas is better. Locals are a sticky situation which are not likely to change anytime soon, since each DMA has broadcast exclusivity for their market. Yes you can get the New York Network feeds meant for the Virgin Islands in the clear with an FTA receiver and 6ft Cband dish. I'm not sure how the 118k satellite for International programming is mixed into an eastern arc setup. You could go eastern arc and just use the over the air tuner in the HD receivers to get the locals. Most Tulsa stations are easy to receive with any outdoor antenna or attic mounted antenna. Indoor antennas can get most but are spotty on the west side of town from the River out to Sand Springs further out and an indoor is useless.

If you are actually in Tulsa, then you can't get much more than Tulsa locals. If you are on the outer edges say Oologah, Bristow, Wagoner, Muskogee. Then you might get Ft Smith, OKC or Joplin locals at night. I can pick up Ft Smith and Joplin late at night or early in the mornings from my lake house at Wagoner depending on which way I turn the antenna. They are not reliable but do come in for a few minutes at a time.

The term for doing that w/ OTA is DXing. You are picking up the "skip".
 
Years (Many) ago I would pick up a Caribbean TV channel and WRAL from NC in Ct quite often.

You can have both ARC's or close to it, some of us do. I have 119/118/72/61.5 I can switch from 119 to 110 if I want to. I can't see 129 in Ct.

You are more knowledgeable than I. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have a huge rooftop antenna setup left over from the early days when digital locals were not fully available from any provider. It may be reduced or eliminated if I have to replace my roof. Only picked up Fayetteville when the atmospheric conditions were right with the biggest of my outdoor antennas but nothing else outside the area. Skipped installing the rotor and my antennas are highly directional. My smaller rooftop antenna was for an obscure low power local digital whose transmission actually used to originate inside Tulsa at 7!st & Yale. FTA setup sounds appealing but my property inside Tulsa is postage sized with the south and western directions mostly obscured by hills and trees. New York networks are not my favorite I would take them if I could get them. I like them. Denver was great when I could receive it. I have grown to really like the bay area SF with AAD. Chicago locals in HD were really good. I had NY sd and liked it. LA was my favorite. I was on an RV waiver before AAD. Distant networks most vital feature for me is news and time shift. What a change to my viewing it will be when I don't have distant nets. I didn't like it at first when AAD's only western alternative was San Francisco but now I like the locals from there. I think there is a way to insert my Asian programming with eastern arc but I would not get Tulsa. I like getting Tulsa but would do without it on satellite if I could get distant.

I forgot what station was using the array's on the bank tower. I think Cox radio still has studios there and broadcast from there. One of the LP spanish stations (51 I think) is broadcasting from their studios at 3rd and Peoria. Ion's tower is south of town closer to Okmulgee. The CW tower is east of Bixby near Leonard. 47 broadcasts from their studios at 88th and Memorial. 53 (ORU) broadcasts from the ORU campus at 81st and Lewis. TBN tower is in Bartlesville and 35 RSU is on the campus at Claremore, the rest of Tulsa stations are along the Turnpike just NE of Coweta.

If you have a big enough setup with a rotor, you might be to pull the signals in from Fayetteville, Ft Smith, Joplin or OKC later in the evenings. It won't be anything for reliable watch when when you want reception. My lake house is in a valley by the lake north of Wagoner. I thought I could get Fayetteville from there, but I haven't been able to. I think being in the valley having to aim over the lake and the hills to the east if limiting me in that direction, but I can get Joplin and Ft Smith. My grandparents ranch and house was on the highest elevation in Seminole county and we could get Tulsa, OKC and Ada stations at any time, and at night I could get Dallas, Lawton, Joplin, Ft Smith, Shreveport and Wichita if the weather was right.

wwiTV appears to be an excellent resource. Thank you. Watching distant local news online will be the only alternative I will have now with loss of AAD. All local news in every location do not appear to be available online but with a greater variety of cities than were available on television. Distant network channels are one thing I don't mind paying for and I find their loss very disappointing.

It's a sad story. Cnn started out covering local news so you could see what was happening in other burgs. Then they lost their way. Turner says it makes him cry.

I am pretty sure they were live in New York, I had distant networks and watched the game live. In Hawaii 5 hours later, I will get the same gamee that was on New York live 5 hours, basically watching a replay. New York locals worked perfectly in hawaii, instead of watching the Tonight Show at 10pm I watched at 5 or 6pm. I definitely will miss the my distant networks for sure, especially when it comes to NFL season, I had more games to watch.
 
I sure hope another company takes over. I am changing outdoor antennas at my Winter Texas location Sunday to try to get a stronger OTA signal. While only about 35 miles from the towers, I have a tree that is starting to leaf and it is right in my line of sight to the towers for all 4 network stations. Dead of winter, the signal was ok.

I doubt another company will take over. Dish can better use the leased transponder for far more customers than ADD could. It was a great ploy when it was done since Dish could not offer distants at all for a long time. Now Dish carries every market and the TP can be use for a lot more customers.

Do some trimming if possible and maybe a different location for the OTA ant. And hopefully the new ant will help too.
