Any way to Opt -Out of Hopper Inserted Ad's?

Love Dish. 15 year subscriber and proud Hopper 3 owner. But I'm almost at my wits end with inserted ad's.

In the past I would not be exposed to local commercials for scumbag local car dealerships, loudmouth ambulance chasing lawyers, or political ads unless I tuned to a local broadcast station.

Over the past 2-3 years this changed with the Hopper 2 & 3 pre-empting a national ad with a local ad on the traditional cable channels.

On occasion the Hopper will run the same ad twice in a row! No Hopper 3, I'm never buying a Chrysler Minivan. Nor am I interested in a women bladder control pads.

My question for DIRT is there a way to opt-out of inserted ad's on the Hopper 3?

You could record your shows and skip the commercials.

You are being ridiculous, IMO. The Hopper does not insert the commercials, DISH does, There are going to be about 6-8 minutes of commercial time, so who cares if Dish inserts a feminine napkin pad commercial over a local vinyl siding company. I mean, "Whats the Diff?"

I've noticed the inserted local ads before. I've also noticed that they disappear as soon as they play. I've rewound to see the ad but it was gone.

You know, I would expect that there is extensive study done on this by marketing specialists. I don't watch commercials either, but I assure you that businesses, both large and small, would not be investing in this form of advertising if it didn't return the desired result.

It's just like all the drug commercials, they're overwhelming and target the senior population. Who the heck tells their doctor which drugs to prescribe anyway? But, it must work because they go on continuously.

I disagree with you on this. Marketing companies tell businesses that it is important to show commercials more times because it gets the message to consumers. The party benefitting here is the marketing company. If you really want to know what is effective, you can't depend on the marketing company to tell you. Unfortunately most businesses listen to their marketing companies for advice..

However, I would think it would be pretty easy for a business to establish a correlation between money spent on TV advertising and revenue. You don't need a marketing company to give you those financial stats. Who the heck ever heard of Geico before they started advertising on TV? Royal Windows and Siding wouldn't exist without TV ads. Yes, ads work whether we on this forum consciously watch them or not. JMO

TV ads are still the most recognizable of any type of advertising I know of so I agree with you.

What they should be doing is producing better ads and running them less often. Heck, I've brought up the guide and selected a program and tuned to that channel. I've then been pummeled with a seemingly unending amount of commercials to the point that I forgot what program was on. Some channels are worse than others (as far as how many commercials they run and how often the breaks are). There are some channels that I can't even watch any more because it seems like they run 10 minutes of a movie followed by 10 minutes of commercials. There isn't enough content to stay interested in and the commercials are just idiotic nonsense.

They are only "overlays", put there by the DVR, not sent over satellite, so they're not actually recorded, if that makes sense. That's why if you rewind you'll see the original commercial. Not sure what happens if you're watching from the buffer or delayed. I suppose the DVR itself can still overlay them in this case but you also can skip them when watching this way.

These channels are the ones that run old movies, where a 90-minutes movie just barely fits in a three hour time slot, and the bottom third of it is unwatchable most of the time with banner ads.

I despise them bigly and invariably my wife will find one of those and watch it live.
