May I point out that traditional landline is a subset of landline. Traditional landline is copper based. Landline includes not only that but also VOIP. It could turn out that both of you have a sense of correctness in your posts.

FWIW - I have both a copper based landline and a VOIP landline (as well as two cellphones) in my household.

Technically, I don't consider VOIP to be a Landline ... then again, it's not Cell Phone either, but it Is Internet.

I guess you could look at it either way, Yews, its still coming over a Line in the plant, but that really is the Internet more than anything.

I've put in a Lot of Voip before I retired.
Sometimes it was still on Copper for the last half a mile depending on where your at.

They are replacing the old 5e pots switches with small remote switches that route traffic like voIp..its not like making a call with a traditional voIP system...when you pick up a landline..you get dialtone..you still have a copper line..Just the network changes

They don't use them for regular calls but work great for 911 and heart monitors and stuff like that

I don't know, but I use to have to put in a separate Phone line for anyone that has a Ankle Monitor, regardless of if they already had a landline installed ... had to be a dedicated line.
Q. Does Ankle Monitors still require landlines or have they moved to internet supplied by now ?

Personally, I had one for several years before I actually decided to turn mine off ...
It was a case where it only rang when Political Season was here.

My Parents had thiers along time before turning them off, I think sometimes they would be better off with a landline vs a Smart Phone.

A buddy of mine decided to keep his for many years after they were done using them, he said, its the only number available if someone needs to reach you, outside of immediate family and friends I guess, seeing there is no Cell phone, phone book.
