PBS/NPR funding cut

Looks like the House approved a funding cut for public broadcasting yesterday. The bill will move on to the Senate. I fear this bill approval could darken quite a few stations. I was employed by a local PBS/NPR station and it was always a battle to raise funding. Have to see what the future brings.

I've read studies that show the high demographics of most PBS programs would make them quite sellable. Plenty people (companies) would love to have them onboard.

Transmitting facilities may be redundant. Head office managers would need to seek new employment …..

Federal Funding of PBS is only about 13% of their total funding.

Many of the shows like Sesame Street and This Old House are not even produced by PBS anymore.

So I don't see this as a bad thing... in fact I think (and hope) this will allow them to expand things and allow them to have ads without tiptoeing around the ads they show now. I see you are in the same area as me, and you see a lot of "Made possible by" promos which are just carefully worded ads.

I think with no government funding they could actually expand thing as they will not longer be prohibited of what they can and can not do.

I worked for a period of time in the late 80's and Early 90's for our local PBS, and was heavily involved in fundraising when they held their annual auctions to raise funds.

I don't see this as a bad thing or PBS, I see this as a great opportunity for them as then the restraints will be released.
