DIRECTV Satellite is not currently available for new customers in your area

I'll note that this does not appear to be official news, but rather a regurgitation of the same anecdotal findings from this forum. I am curious to see how long before DTV makes an official statement about this. They eventually will have to.

Yep that's what I was going to say. It claims "Directv announced" this but there is no link to such an announcement. So either that claim is untrue, or they forgot to include a link to Directv's site showing this announcement.

I think this is how DirecTV is trying to future proof themselves in a post-satellite world when the Satellites they own or lease stop working and become decommissioned.

Hmm my area can still get the sat service

funny thing is my area is supposed to be a streaming only area but we can still get sat service :coco
Los Angeles is one of the markets where sat installations are still available:
It looks to be market by market. I just tried some LA, Philly, Atlanta, Denver, Baltimore, Scranton, Vegas, Seattle, Sacramento, Kansas City, San Diego, Peoria and Birmingham zips and they worked, while NYC, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco, DC, Detroit, Boston, Phoenix, Minneapolis, Tampa, Miami, Orlando, Cleveland, Hartford and St Louis didn't.

i gathered mixed thoughts on that as some sites said la was one that was streaming only for new subs and some said you could still get sat service!!! the dtv reps know nothing about it as always!!!

My area can't get the sat service for new customers but the option is still there on the website to try to order it. What happens if you click the Satellite button? Does it go into the ordering process or do you get the popup that it isn't available?
it let us order sat service and gave us monthly charges

As I now have DTV MyEntertainment, I doubt they would offer me satellite service, even here in Northern Virginia.

According to a recent report from Cordcutter News, the areas that appear to be impacted by this change include large cities with solid high-speed internet access, which are great areas for DirecTV to push its streaming services.
New customers in rural areas that have limited internet availability may, however, still have access to DirecTV satellite services.
Once again CordCutters has no idea what they are talking about. The restriction is DMA wide, it doesn't matter if you're in the namesake city, or 80+ miles away in the rural fringes where Verizon has zero plans to deploy FiOS and the local cable company hasn't expanded their footprint in decades.

It's still available across multiple major and large DMAs including LA, Philly, Atlanta, Seattle, Denver, Sacramento, Portland OR, Nashville, Salt Lake City, Baltimore, San Diego, Kansas City, Austin, Columbus OH and Vegas.
