We discovered a problem that coincidentally has been confirmed not the new iphone
We had this Blood Pressure cuff from Qardio that we have been using for a number of years. When the App was transferred to the new 17Pro, it required my wife to log into the account again activate. Got a message that the account server can not be reached, check your internet. That was not the problem. I opened the app on my iphone and it was fine. Today we tried again thinking maybe their server was down. Same request to log in. I did some searching and discovered the company was in bankruptcy and shut down. Mine works fine because the app was activated and only server access to stored data is unavailable. What's on my iphone still is there. Ordered a new BP monitor from iHeart for her to use.

TheForce I wasn't trying to say there is a serious problem with the iPhone 17 Pro, just that most any anodized phone, including the new iPhone 17 Pro, can be scratched in one particular area. 9to5Mac has reported that their iPhone 17 Pro has not seen this in their two weeks of use, mostly case-free.

Most people of a certain age treat their equipment with respect and care. My iPhone 13 looks as good as the day I got it four years ago. Its leather case, on the other hand, has seen some scuffs but that's part of the patina of a well-utilized device.

The JerryRig channel has some educational value, but probably the one test that I pay attention to is the screen scratch test using MOHS 2-9. This shows that the new iPhone screens do not scratch at MOHS 6 and barely show marks at MOHS 7, far more durable than the previous generation iPhones and most smartphones on the market today. It is ironic that his channel pushes a screen protector that will scratch before the phone's screen will. His sponsor needs to up their game!

Roland, I wasn't blaming you. I just feel some YT videos seek click bates. Others are some how worried over the competition because they have FOMO being a non Apple user so they try to force damage or try to make the Apple product mal function.

On the LCD screen, I've seen quite a few iphones with cracked screens in the past but they are still in use. I tend to blame the owner for carelessness and Apple for failure to add the screen protectors as standard. Seems the new ceramic glass is a step in the right direction.

Personally, there is a reason why I buy a silicone bumper case for our phones is because accidents do happen, the phones are slippery and can slid off a table, and finally, keeps the phone looking better for trade-in value. My wife's 12 mini doesn't have a scratch on it and she tosses it in her purse next to her keys and other junk. What's wrong with the 12 mini is old technology, and battery life.

So I ordered a new iPhone 17 (not pro or pro max) on 9/26/25. When I ordered it...it said it would arrive Oct 13 - Oct 20. Is that normal for it take almost a month? I thought maybe that was just a "worst case" scenario and that I might get it sooner but it is still listed as "processing" and has not got to the "preparing to ship" stage.

I suspect the delays may be rooted in the fact that Apple significantly underestimated the relative popularity of the iPhone 17. The India Times notes that Apple has boosted production of the base model by 30-40% based on presales.

I suspect that it has a lot to do with the iPhone 17 being enough of what people want. The fancier camera apparently doesn't make up for the $300 price difference for most.

I suppose it is also possible that the more advanced phones are just too large from an acreage standpoint.

Orders started on Sept. 12. Not unusual to sell out of initial stocks early on. Sometimes certain models sell out on the first day.

I also wanted to get my hands on the actual phones. The iPhone Air is pretty thin, but there are two many compromises that eliminate it from use as my daily driver. No stereo speakers when watching video or listening to music, for one. The single image sensor isn't all that bad, since it is the image-stabilized 48 MP camera, but eventually that would annoy me. Plus, no spatial data like the 17. And I can imagine the smaller battery would annoy me at some point. It might start out fine, but after two or three years, would I be cursing the limited battery life and the need to spend even more money on an external power bank to get it through the day. I'm glad I could hold it in my hands and go, "Oooo". It is noticeably lighter than the 17, and polished titanium does have a different feeling than the aluminum iPhones I've been using over the years. If you get this phone, you'd probably want it uncased, because otherwise, why bother?

I also wanted to look at the iPhone 17 Pro. Weight and bulk seem similar to my current iPhone 13, but the extra $300 over the iPhone 17 is hard to justify as I wouldn't be likely to use this phone for anything like what it's capable of. I didn't see any evidence of the Mag Safe transfer that's been reported in other stores. Holding the uncased Pro, the edge of the "plateau" felt wrong. It's like the only sharp edge/corner on a phone that's all smoothed out. Not a problem if you have it in a case, but it's just weird that this made it into production like this.

The other thing I wanted to check on were the cases. WeaveTech isn't available on the iPhone 17 cases, so that was easy. And the one case they had that I thought was pretty close to my current leather case was a Beats case for $45. I'll have to look over at Amazon and see what's available there. The Silicone case feels better than previous generations, but I'm still leaning towards leather.

Well, I have made the change to go with Boost Mobile on my old iPhone 13 since I can have the Prepaid plan with my phone and Foxbat, Jr.'s phone for about half what we were paying on Cricket Wireless, but getting three times the high-speed data.

The big gotcha was in going from a physical SIM to an eSIM. The physical SIM uses the phone's IMEI identifier while the eSIM uses its IMEI2 identifier. It makes a HUGE difference between being stuck in SOS mode and actually being able to get data, texts, and phone calls.

This little detail was left out of the instructions on the form you fill out online to Port your previous phone number from your old provider to Boost.

Boost requires iPhone 12 and later to use eSIM, but you might be able to pay for a physical SIM and use that. Also, the FAQ says you need iOS 15.4 or later running on your iPhone.

By the way, if you want to experience sadness, go into your General Settings, and Reset your Network settings. Not only will it erase your Cellular settings, it wipes out all your Wi-Fi networks, too. If you're using iCloud to backup your password keychain, this wipes out all your saved Wi-Fi passwords on your other iDevices.

Be prepared to rely on the kindness of Contacts when going somewhere that you assumed you'd have Wi-Fi…

My wife hasn't had any problems with her 17Pro. But it is in a $10 Amazon silicone case that has extra bumpers on the corners. IMO, any case that is slippery on hard counter tops is a no deal. Apple cases are way overpriced.

I think the extra thin 17air will be a flop.

I have titanium on my 15PM and it is durable but in a case, doesn't matter. More important for me was to have the Apple watch in either stainless steel or Titanium. My wife had an earlier AW in aluminum and it was a mess with corrosion in a year. Her old 12 mini iphone was fine and we got full trade-in $.
