Ok, I am a Dish tech with 10 yrs in this business. On a service call I ran into a real head scratcher.
Config..
D-500 plus 110/119/118.7
DP34
DP301
Apartment with flat cable passed under door from balcony.
Customer losing ZEE TV. no other problems
Chk switch result: all TPs received on all sats. Verified tp's on all sats. Signals are great on al tp's except 118 tp 20. examples 119 tp 20/ 120...110 tp 11/ 95
ONly problem is say 118 tp 20 fades.. Runs about 70 then fades to 30-40 then goes out. Changed switch same result. removed flat cable, same result. swapped receiver same result. Unfortunately we are out of d-500 plus kits, so I could no swap the 118/119 combo lnb..
Anyone? Anyone?

Runs about 70 then fades to 30-40 then goes out.

usually this is caused by bad cable. but since it is apartment the run is not that long so i would say it points to the LNB did you go to system info? ( just courteous if it has LNB drift)

301's don't have the software that allows you to check for drift.
What puzzles me is it is just one TP on one sat....Just one. weird

i would say it is LNB then
we're going to do a folow up on this one. Wen we get more 118/119 lnb's delivered, we'll head out there and see what's what.
The thing that concerns me is the new LNB will work but after the receiver does it's self diagnosticthe problem may crop up again.
I'll keep the board posted.

I would fault the flat cable... All it would take is a "weird bend" or something not making a decent contact. Also you are passing that FSS signal through that thing too...

Run a "hot drop" directly to the TV from the dish, bypassing that flat cable and see what happens.

I tried that. I simply took out the flat cable and replaced with coax. No diff.
Thanks, though

I had the same problem

Barely move the Dish to the left, TP 20 came right in for me.
did that and it improved the signal somewhat. That's the way I left it. So far we have not heard back from this customer. So fingers arer crossed. I still would like ot swap the 118/119 lnb combo just to see what's what.

I got a guy in Charlotte by the Carowinds that can get you a 118 LNB for cheap.

Check BER with your meter right off the LNB and see if you are having trouble right there.

If you have a superbuddy meter, you could check drift, signal levels using BER, emulate receiver meter on the superbuddy, etc. You could also lock on a particular transponder.
