2013 AL Central

I think the decision to move Peralta over to LF became obvious once they saw Iggy play SS...and realized he has an above average bat too. If I were Jhonny, I would embrace to the move and become the LF I could. We could use an average Left-Fielder with a strong throwing arm, above average bat w/a little pop. Otherwise, he becomes trade bait.

I agree ...

However, Peralta is not a .300 hitter, his history shows he has one good year and the next is poor offensively ... next year should be a down year, then again, will he be back with the team , seeing he's a FA. we don't know.

Now if you resign Peralta to play LF next year, does that mean your giving up on Castellonos playing LF, I think he was going to be given every chance to win the spot out of Spring Training.

They already gave up on A. Garcia ....

Peralta is a proven big league player while Castellonos is unproven talent...far more fail to develop than make it to the regular lineup. Jhonny is at the peak of his career and a contributor (i.e., I think his bat will be much more steady and productive) so I say keep him, if possible. I guess a lot depends on whether Jhonny wants to play LF. Plus, Castellanos can platoon in the OF and spend more time honing his skills in Toledo if necessary. Also, how long did we sign Iggy and does he want to stay with the Tigers? Regardless, I think it's a great move Jhonny P to LF for the playoffs. We're taking a World Series this year...or else I'll cry like a little girl and fall into a deep depression. :)

Verlander gave up 3 runs and only 4 hits while going 7 innings ....

Then Coke came in and coughed up a lung and the game was over.

True, but the game was over when we didn't score early and that Seattle pitcher got into a grove.

As for Coke...when does his contract expire? Currently he's making about 1.9M per year, which can be better used on players who are performing.

If our offense looks as good as it did tonight ... as it does often .... it will be a short stay in the post season. :(

As for Iggy, I'm not sure, being a rookie, isn't he under the contract he had with Boston still ?

edit:
If you can make sense out of this ...

Teams (by GP): RedSox/Tigers 2011-2013
2013 Contract Status: Pre-Arb Eligible, 4 yrs/$14.24M (10-13) (details) [*]
Service Time (01/2013): 0.071, Arb Eligible: 2016, Free Agent: 2019 [*], Agents: SFX [*]

My take, he signed with the Sox in 2011 for 4 years/14.24M, so he has 2 more years on the deal ?

Is that how you read it ?

FYI, Phil Coke has a career record of 17-25, ERA of 4.20, and was into the bullpen after going 1-8 in 2011 (the Brad Penny years). Coke played on a 1-year contract during 2012 so I would expect he is only signed through 2013. If so, he's gone. If now, he's being traded at a loss.

So, would you sign Peralta for how many years and for how much money, remember he's a FA.

I wouldn't resign him. I'd say try it out for the playoffs but I wouldn't give him a new contract.

It all depends on the money. Of course, when the Tigers win a WS, and if he were to be the Series MVP, well then he's a Detroit icon. We shall see what happens.

meanwhile the Twins are just waiting for the season to be over :)

I see on local TV they are promoting HEAVILY fan appreciation weekend (which is the 28th & 29th) with a bunch of commercials of the ballplayers and Gardy saying "thanks"

I miss not having to battle the Twins the past couple years. I imagine you guys will have to suffer through a few more brutal seasons before moving up in the standings.
