Bottom line....you can't be held responsible for a package that you did not sign for. Neither E* nor UPS has can put the cost on you.

After missing the start of the Monaco Grand Prix (saw it later on a rebroadcast) due to a yet another spontaneous reboot I fired off an angry, but civil letter to ceo@dishnetwork.com. They want to send me a new 622 as reboots are "not a known issue with the software" according to the tech who was consulted. Their conclusion is therefore that it is a hardware problem, hence the new receiver.

Well, I'll take the new receiver if it makes the reboots go away, but I didn't have these reboot problems until 4.00. 3.68 worked fine for me. I don't receive any channels OTA.

Might I suggest you delay returning the old one. If the new one behaves the same, the "equipment" failure might be in an LNB or switch. So if the new one reboots, call Dish and discuss before returning the old one with all your recordings on it.

I suspect the same thing as kstuart though. A neighbor saw it sitting there and took it so that it didn't get stolen. If UPS delivered it to a neighbor's house, it would state so on the proof of delivery.

No, actually in my neighborhood, some houses don't have numbers.
Even though mine does, clearly visible, in two different places, nevertheless sometimes the drivers actually put the boxes on the wrong porch.
And, btw, UPS has a formal difference between "business" and "home" delivery, and has different procedures accordingly. There is even a different charge (less for business addresses).

As a professional software engineer (not for E*), I can tell you that there is no such thing as "info as to when the problem will be fixed". I don't mean that they don't release such info, and certainly no company would do so. Rather, I mean that it is not possible to tell how long it will take.

If they knew how long it would take, that would imply that they knew what was causing the problem. Most of the time for fixing the problem is finding the problem. It usually involves something like changing:

If i=4 then goto exit

to

if i=4 and s>3 then goto exit

which takes 30 seconds to type, maybe a few minutes to compile, and then a few days of beta testing, and a day to setup the download to receivers.

Oh and meanwhile you play your recording of the Tonight Show of Arnold saying:

You are idiot, you are so stupid!

because you forgot that you shouldn't exit if S is not greater than 3.

Anyway, it is finding that mistake that takes most of the time, and it is not possible to say how long.

One factor here is that there are undoubtedly very few engineers at E* who understand tuning OTA Digital Stations. It's entirely different from receiving a satellite signal, and something that no one at E* was doing at all a couple of years ago (or so). So, there are clearly only a few guys who can figure it out.

If you read the threads, you know that these guys have a bunch of people who are collecting data from customers, and in fact, we know that they now have a malfunctioning customer receiver to test and check out.

622 is the most important E* product, and they are clearly working on fixing it.

Well here's the final update on my desaster: I got a call from UPS today, that the delivery guy will be sent back to the same place where he dropped the receiver on the porch. Around noon the guy shows up at my house and tells me, that he dropped the receiver at the McAlester Chamber Of Commerce, which is across the street, by accident, and said that he talked to them there, and the girl that picked the receiver off the porch is at lunch and has my receiver in her trunk! So they called that girl and ask her to bring the receiver back from lunch. Well the UPS guy leaves and says he will call that girl again to make sure she gets the receiver over to my house. Well the girl shows up, coming from lunch and apologizes for being so late to take the receiver across the street (50 yards). Apologizing over and over again and acting all nervous and stuff. YEAH RIGHT! I tell you what was going on over there: First off, they don't have a Dish on their building. They have Local Cable. Second of all, if any of you guys is getting a package dropped at your door, that says DISH NETWORK all over it, and you don't expect such thing, because you don't have a dish at your place, wouldn't you get suspicious who the heck this was addressed to AND try to read the damn label? And would you put it in your trunk for 5 days and take it home and act like nothing happens? And by the way, the outstanding IGNORANCE to think you might keep and use it yourself, as you would not even get the thing activated? On top of everything she is a LEADING member of The McAlester Chamber Of Commerce, driving a brand spanking new Chrysler 300 with 20" Chrome Rims! I guess that's the way people get rich, and that's why I'll never get rich, because I wasn't raised that way. What do you guys think of that now??

Yeah, but imagine I wouldn't have thrown a major BITCH- FIT!

I got it installed, and activated and so far all is good, except for a more persistent LNB-drift error. So instead of getting a new DPP plus for $38.99, I just ordered a whole new 1000.2 from Dishstore for $85

BTW, it is a new E-series receiver with the HDMI logo on the back. I hope this is a good thing, and has the latest improvements built in. I am not sure which series caused the most problems with L4.xx software, but maybe since it went straight from L0.61 to L4.05RBGD it might be ok..

My boss asked me to order him a 4TB Xserve Raid Apple Server to serve music and video off of in his 14,000 sqft apartment. I get the thing ordered, all $9K worth and have it shipped to ME at WORK.

Fedex delivers it to USAToday about 4 blocks away on a completely different street. I was tracking it bcause I needed to go set it up when it came in. I saw that it was delivered and signed for but not by anybody working in my office. It takes a WEEK to find that it is half a mile away so I call Fedex and tell them to go get it and DELIVER it to me. They can't find it.

I call USAToday and they tell me who handles the stuff and he says he parked it in a corner because he didn't know what to do with it. I ask him if there is a shipping label on it and a packing list. Yes, he says. I ask if my name, phone number, and address are on both and he says yes. I ask what the problem is and he says well I guess I could ship it to you. I'm not picking it up myself on principle and because I don't know what shape it's in. So, USAToday ships it by Fedex half a mile to me, two weeks after it was supposed to arrive.
