Thats right. If you want to be called the HD leader, then you need to have what everyone else has and more.

Well ... sorta correct on your behalf.....
Just because they trail E* in movies they are not as good ?

E* trails D* by a whole lot when it comes to "Sports".
E* even boycotted the oppertunity to jump in on the MLB package when they had every chance to do it.
They don't do the NFL either.

There are alot of us out here that have Sat TV for the Sports available.
So it depends on how you look at it.

I could care less about the Premium movie channels, I've had the Movie channel, Showtime and Starz for 3-6 months at a time and found myself Not watching much of them , at least not enough to keep them.
I am currently doing HBO and Cinemax and hardly find myself watching them except for the occasional movie that I DO decide I want to watch.

So there are lot of ways to be the leader in HD, number of channels is NOT how I want to have the provider I want to use to decide.

DISH : PREmium movie channels & the most HD - for now.
DIRECTV : Sports , sports and more sports, with more HD -in the future.

Good point, but...I'm pretty sure D* would like to put an end to the "HD Leader Debate." To do that, they need to please the sports fans, movie fans, all the HD viewers. If it remains a "E* for movies D* for sports" situation, what are they really changing?

When the two sats are both active, D* should have plenty of bandwidth to really be the HD leader. Down the pike, when there are enough HD channels to cause a bandwidth crunch again, D* might have to focus on sports at the expense of other things, but there is no reason to do that when the two new sats are operating and they are trying so hard to convice us of their committment to HD.

I am a Sunday Ticket subscriber and often scan thru the sports channels. I am looking forward to having them in HD. Just because I want my movie channels doesn't mean I don't want you to have your sports. :)

I never said E was the HD leader. I said if you want to be the HD leader ,you can't be unless you have everything. Sports ,Premium's ,everything. I 'm saying Directv is Never going to be if they don't have everything everyone else does. What makes you a leader means you can make everyone Happy.I could care less about all the useless rsn's that are blacked out 80% of the time. And when they aren't blacked out ,there's 30 channels with the same crappy paid programming. If people want to shell out Hundreds of dollars extra a year for Sports packs ,then I guess you can call D* the sports leader.

OK, Hemi,
I can see we will have to agree to disagree.

I am pretty satisfied with the PQ from D* HD right now, and from what I read, it will be even better with MPEG4.

I think D* has to show a comittment to all its customers, not just sports fans. It seems to me they will have the ability to make everyone happy soon.

If not, then I will eliminate a couple of DVRs, drop down a couple of levels of programming, and subscribe to E* for movies. I'll keep a small D* package so I can have NFL ST. My monthly D* bill will go from $145 down to probably half that.

Neither Dish nor Directv have all the HBO and Cinemax multichannels available now, and their western feeds, so I am sure it is highly unlikely either one of them will carry the new HD versions of the channels they don't have now.

Dish does pretty good on the Starz, and that is why I subscribe to Starz through Dish. I hope they add those multichannels of Starz in HD when they become available.

I subscribe to HBO/Cinemax through cable and currently get all their east/west multichannels. I wonder how many Bright House will pick up in HD.

I can't stand watching SD TV anymore (especially pan and scan movies). Right now I am paying for Dish and BHN, and that isn't going to go on forever. I will ultimately go with whoever has the most HD channels, weighed heavily by the HD premium channels that I would watch more of if the picture was in HD. I only care about pro hockey and pro football as far as sports and I can live without the games, so sports aren't a make or break here.
