61.5-110-119-148 - How????

I had 110-119-148 on a Toroidal T90 feeding in legacy mode through the Dish SW64 Switch.

Now that Voom has been added, I have a Dish 300 in legacy mode with dual lnbf aimed at 61.5, but I had to disconnect the 119 feed on my SW64 to make a place for it.

So, I have the lnb and signal for the 4th bird - but no way to input it into my system. Is there any way that I can add the 4th bird into my setup?

DPP-44 specs say that the 4th lnb has to be 105 or 121 so that doesn't appear to work either.

Two ways to look at this.

1. Everything except locals mirror from 61.5 and 148, maybe you can omit 148 putting 61.5 in its place.

2. Switch over to dishpro lnbs and switches.

1) 148 has higher bitrate than 110 on the ShowtimeHD and HBOHD so that is not an option. KCBS-DT is also not on 61.5, but is on 148W.

2) As I stated, I have a Toroidal which uses reverse lnbf for the dss birds and they are legacy models. I am not aware of any dishpro lnbs that work with the Toroidal.

You can combine the SW64 and the next slot into an SW21 for each tuner other than port 1 on the SW64. If you need 3 of the 4, connect the 61.5 to a D* style 3x4 multiswitch and then use 3 SW21s. You can use an SW21 with port 1 of the SW64, you have to do it between the power inserter and the receiver, so you may have to run a second line depending on your setup to that receiver. It will show up as an SW21-4sat. Good luck.

119W and 110W are essentially maxed out for E* being their primary Conus birds. That is the reason they cannot put up more HDTV Content on either of those birds at this time.

On the other hand, 148W is essentially a West Coast bird. It's signal level and footprint East of Texas is marginal and falls off rapidly as you move further East, unlike 61.5 which covers the East Coast but has a good footprint/signal level on the West Coast - only it's low on the horizon.

As a result, E* has several transponders open on 148W and is not close to maxing it out.

Because of this, they allow more bandwidth on 148W to HBOHD and ShowtimeHD than they do to 110W.

110W's bandwidth is reduced progressively during the day as more PPV and other channels come on during the course of the day. It is not uncommon to see the bitrate on the same HBOHD movie go from, say, 10.50Mbps in the morning Eastern Time to 9.75Mbps in the afternoon to 9.00Mbps at night as more bandwidth is taken for various other channels on 110W (I assume porn, ppv and sports).

At the same time, because 148 has room to spare, the same movie would typically have a bitrate of 11.50-12.00Mbps.

This results in better quality and less macroblocking.

That's why I keep 148 for ShowtimeHD and HBOHD.

I think the specs say, that if your using Legacy IRD's< that is the restriction. If you have DP or DP+ IRD's, It say's there are NO restriction's on inputs!! But the down fall is the DPP44 needs all DP lnbf's.

That's why I keep 148 for ShowtimeHD and HBOHD.

It has nothing to do with anything happening on 110 other than what is on the same transponder.

In the case of HBOHD on 110-13, it is shared with TNTHD and HDPPV. SHOHD on 110-17 is shared with DSCHD and ESPNHD. That's 3 HD channels per transponder.

The reason HBOHD & SHOHD on 148 are better is because they are on 148-17 at TWO channels per transponder.

As content changes on the shared channels on the same transponder, bitrates WILL change a little. This applies to ALL channels on ALL birds - SD & HD.
