I set up the dish at the begining of the week and 110, 119 were good and I was receiving and recording my programs. A few days later I lost 110 and discovered that on the point dish screen a software update was done. We are full time RVers and are currently at the Naval Wepons Station Goose Creek, SC 29445. I have been setting up the trypod and dish with minor problems and some major error on my part. I use a simple sat meter at the dish and a Align-A-Sight.
Dish 500, DPP Twin w/ seperator.

I can peek the dish and get 119 above 50 (new reading) and here is the strange thing, 110 above 50 on some spot beams. for example on spotbeam 18 bot 110 and 119 are above 50 and green locked to the apporate sat. Check switch completes with 119 port 1 and 110 port 2.

Now when I get out of point dish, it does the sat lock thing and downloads the program guide. Now if I go to any station that is on the 110, I get loss of signal. It tries to lock using spotbeam 20.

On the point dish screen spotbeam 20 get 119 above 50 and 110 at 14 or less.

Is there any way to control which spotbeam/transponder the system locks to? If I could keep it on 18, 21, 11, 3 any odd number and a very few even but not 20.

I spent quite alot of time with tech support chat without a fix. Tech ended the session abruptly.

I am totally lost Help please.

I just do not understand. I peak the signal on transponder 19 for 119 and transponder 21 for 110. I then check transponders 14 and 15 for both 110 and 119. They are all reading above 50, which should be above 80 with the old reading. I then run check switch and it locks with 119 on port 1 and 110 on port 2 for both sat inputs. Then I click done and return to the signal strength meter. Transponder is changed to 20 with less than 10 strength for 110 and lest than 40 for 119.

This is where it stays, if I exit the menus it will lock sat 119 but 110 will not lock and I get loss of signal.

I have replace the cable, no change, moved the trypod re peaked with the same results.

what could be the problem???? please help.

I had the same problem on my 625 a few days ago. I believe my Dish is a 1000.2. I didn't care since I was still able to record "Dr. Who" last night, and my 622 works fine.

I will try the check switch fix later today!

I did the check switch clearing thing and then reconnected, checked that the levels were ok, left the signal strength on 110 transponder 21, ran check switch completed normally. ckicked done to return to the signal strength meter and the sat had changed to 105 and transponder to 20. Changed sat to 110 and of course on transponder 20 signal was less than 10 bouncing between 5 and 8. I guess next I will try power cycling the receiver.

Well I don't care what I do this system wants to go to spotbeam 20, not transponder 20. I guess I am going to have to break down and either call tech support or buy a birddog meter.

I think you've got a bad receiver. But aside from that, if you are considering purchasing a meter, consider a dual analog meter. For alignment, the dual analog meter is way faster and easier (not to mention cheaper) than a Birdog. A Birddog meter and a Super Buddy meter are high end digital meters. They both tell you exactly which bird you've got, and the Super Buddy even can show you individual transponders, but only one at a time. Multi-satellite dishes require you to peak multiple satellites. Dual (two at once) saves a lot of time and effort!

Read about them:

Highdefjeff, Thanks for the info. I just had the receiver replaced back in June or July, cann't remember which, but it may have gone again. The last time it would not power on. I have spent over 2 hours in 2 different chat sessions with the reccomendation being to call a local Dish retailer. At this point it looks like my only option.

I will definatel look at that meter, good input, you might have just saved me big bucks.

I finally go to a tech on the phone that knew what she was doing. I explained what my problem and mentioned that I could not get anything on sat 110, which has my local channels. She informed me that if I was not at my physical address I would not get my locals. I am not in CT but in SC, she changed my physical to Charleston, SC. No more spotbeam, locked on transducer 8, all channels are working, I am a happy camper. I guess there was a change, because up until May we have been from CT to CA and back with out this problem ----- go figure

Regarding a Dish Network PVR w/ access card *Please help!

Can't detect even transponders on 110/119
