because they added a transponder on 72W they need something on the transponder. This is just a virtual channel to keep the TP warm...

129W has alot of them too...they're just "there"

72W has 3 of them...Tp4, TP18 and TP27
61.5 has some too

Dish activating it is going to add quite a number of additonal channels.

This leave Directv with 7 transponders

correct. Directv uses 72 for some markets locals and they have been upgrading folks to a slimline dish and HD receivers for a while now. New subs automatically get MPEG4 equipment

Since Eastern Arc already has more space than Western Arc, and now EA will be getting even more space with these extra transponders, will there be some shift of locals to an only EA setup to help give WA more transponder space? If some locals shift off of WA to EA that really only gives them additional spotbeam space. And it might be in area where they already have extra bandwidth on the beam. They would have to move enough locals to shut off all the beams on that TP frequency to convert it into a national beam. Dish has plans to do the opposite, convert national beams into spotbeams since the bird at 119 is not running at full spotbeam capacity at this time.

There are no leases on 110/119/129 that DirecTV could give up. Everything DirecTV is using on 110 and 119 is owned and operated by DirecTV themselves. I believe it will be a cold day in hell before DirecTV gives up anything on 110 and 119 to Dish.
