942 HDMI question/problem

Hey guys,

I just purchased a DVR942, and I am loving it(had a 811), I do have a question though. I have it connected to my RCA 40" HDTV, via both component, and with the HDMI>DVI cable that comes with the 942. In my oppinion, the picture through the DVI input looks slightly better, and I would like to use that, but I have noticed when switching from the component input to the DVI input, that the picture onscreen moves to the left about 1". So the image is centered correctly on the component input, but on the DVI input, the picture is shifted to the left about 1".

So, is this a problem with the HDMI output on the 942, or the DVI input on my TV? Also, is there anything I can do to fix this? I would like to be able to use the DVI input, because it would free up the component input for some of my other equipment...

EDIT: Here are some pictures I took to show what is happening, Component is on left, HDMI/DVI is on right.

Not sure about the 942, never checked, but some receivers have an adjustment you can make to shift the image over, I know my Samsung 160 does.

I haven't check my 942 to see if it has a screen positioning option (I don't recall seeing one), but on my Toshiba TV, each input has separate settings for position, color, and a bunch of other options. When I calibrated it, I had to set up each input for the best picture (in the service menu). I wonder if your TV might have a similar setup...

Pacman, Any idea how I would get into the service menu on my RCA HDTV?

Sorry, I have no clue - on my Toshiba I press a button on the front a couple of times and then while pressing, I press another button on the remote. You should do a search on the internet with your TV's model number and "service menu"...

RobertsD, If your RCA is like my RCA you need to have the TV set on DVI, then go into the MENU then PICTURE then ADVANCED PICTURE SETTINGS and there should be an option for HORIZONTAL POSITION. Just adjust this to your liking. I've noticed that on my RCA the HORIZONTAL POSITION is only available when its tuned to the DVI input. Hope this helps!

I tried doing what you said, but there is no option for Horizontal Position under advanced picture setting when on the DVI input(or any other input).

I found a button combo using google, but it didn't work. I didn't have time to keep searching, but I'll do that tomorrow.

Sorry that didn't work out for you. I do think it is odd that RCA didn't put that option on there, but to my knowledge of the 942 there's no way to adjust the horizontal from the 942.
