Data is data (ones & zeros), it can be read, it can be transfered.

Well, first it's encrypted (technical reason), and under the DMCA, it's a crime to try to crack it (legal reason).

As an FYI, 480i over Component video is a permitted resolution, and as such when shifting from HD @ whatever resolution to SD @ 480i you should still be getting output from the component video output.
