activate reciever online?

I am getting a extra reciever today and was wondering if i have to call directv to activate it or can i do it online?

You have to call.

If your not in a big hurry( took about 8 hrs.). I have always email them with a the info. and have had no problem with them activating any of my receivers this way.

If you have a phone line available to plug into the receiver, you can activate it by going to channel 114 on the remote control, then click right, right, left, left on the scroll buttons. A page will appear where you enter your account number. The receiver will activate itself through the phone line.

Where you are getting this extra receiver from will have a lot to do with how you can activate it. It might be best to just call D* and get it done the first time.

Wonder why DTV doesn't do the online activation? My service provider will let you activate online as long as it's a new receiver.

Given the recent transition to a different wiring scheme, they want to make sure that you have everything needed to actually use the receiver that you are activating. One example I can think of is that not all MPEG4 capable receivers come with BBCs.
