if you give yourself a gift prime subscription and set it for when your prime runs out and turn off auto renewal you can lock it one more year of prime at the current price.

I am wondering that when you apply the code for the gift prime subscription, would it let you renew prime ($99 value)... or would it be Amazon credit of $79 toward renewal?

it will renew it at 79. you won't have to pay the difference if you do it in time

I cancelled my trial subscription...don't order that many Amazon items (2-day shipping not needed), don't have enough time to watch my recorded programming much less streaming anything, don't have a Kindle and price is going up to $99. It may be a bargain for some, but not for us.
