Are you planning to upgrade to the iPhone 16

Bought mine at the Apple store in Leawood KS last Saturday. $904.44 total including taxes. Got a clear case at BB for $10. Had an extra Zagg shield for my 15 Pro that fit the 16 screen perfectly. 16 feels lighter in the hand than my 15 Pro did.

Also, RCS works on my 16, whereas it never worked right on the 15 Pro.

The Pro models don't have the $30 difference between the carrier and carrier-free models.

Additionally there is a loophole in the requirement to select one of the big 4 carriers if you buy it with Apple Card Monthly Installments (24 zero-interest payments). I selected T-Mobile at checkout, the fine print with T-Mobile requirements said simply "no obligation" and it did not ask for any type of verification that I actually had a T-Mobile account, so when I got the phone, I activated it on my US Mobile esim instead.

This does not work on the non-Pro models, you have to provide existing account info to check out with Apple Card Monthly Installments.

My impression so far, moving from iPhone 14 Pro Max to 16 Pro Max. Both of them on 18.1 release candidate.

Overall: everything works just like it did before, just a little more "snappy"
Spatial video: I haven't yet had a chance to try it but am excited to.
USB-C port: sure, that works.
Action button: Haven't changed it yet but I like that I can.
Camera button: Oh great, another way to accidentally open the camera when I pick it up, as if having a button on the lock screen, and being able to swipe the lock screen away wasn't enough. Frankly, I'm surprised the dang camera isn't open every time I pick up my phone.
AI: Haven't tried it yet. As paranoid as I am, might not enable it ever.

I got my 16 pro from UPS last night. It's definitely more snappy than the 12 and call quality seems a lot better for me too. Annoyingly I forgot to sync it to my bluetooth in the car. I took a usb c cable out to change from the lightning before I returned the 12 this morning for trade in. I just used carplay with it at that time. Then this afternoon in the middle of a drive I get a call and hit the voice button on my Yukon steering wheel, however the phone is still ringing and onstar prompts are playing over the speakers and questioning me. I had entered the twilight zone and my brain was confused. :facepalm

So, the rumor mill was cranking on the "iPhone Air", a lighter version of the iPhone 16 for less money than the iPhone 16's $799. Apple did release the iPhone 16e which appears to be this "Air" model, but then eliminated the iPhone SE (and the Home Button) as well as the iPhone 14 from its lineup. That means that you will be spending $150 more to get a fresh new iPhone with the elimination of the $349 SE option as the iPhone 16e starts at $599 (the same price the iPhone 14 was with half the RAM, but two cameras instead of one).

I never buy new phones.
I am reluctant to get a new phone also - high price, difficulty of self repair for simple things like replacing the battery, fear of losing or breaking it. Am currently doing fine with my used iPhone 8 which I got about 2 years ago.

The only new phone that has my interest is the Tesla pi phone which is rumored to start at $357. But app compatibility and monthly service cost will determine whether I get one.

I guess it's what the market demands. I remember the good ol days when we freaked out over long distance charges until the Bell breakup. Then we complained how much our residential service skyrocketed but at least long distance charges were much lower. Now we don't seem to complain how much these smart phones cost or the cost of monthly service for 4 phones. Strange how times have changed and what we're willing to pay.

True, I know a few here are comfortable with the higher price premium for a folding phone. Me, I usually get a new phone every three years, and usually the iPhone from two years prior to the current generation. But my iPhone 13 is running just fine currently, and Apple has thrown a wrench in my plans by putting the 16e where the old 14 was in the lineup. I should be good for another year, so we'll see if the 15 vanishes when the 17 is announced.

I've also gone with the Apple Refurbished Store for a lower priced alternative to new, but it's hard to get the storage and color you want.

It will be interesting to see how Apple's C1 radio chip performs. It's taken a long time for this in-house design to get to the point where Apple feels it's safe to ditch QualComm for their 5G cell modem.

I did not know that his phone was foldable. In fact I do not think it is.

My point is there are other flagship phones that are not that expensive. I guess that a certain percentage of people need to have the latest and greatest and it needs to be an Apple product.
