It amazes me to watch a guy I'm training run cable and before it gets too late stop him and look back at the cable run - all wavy, not following the forms of the surface it's attached to. etc - and ask him if that looks right. Then I fix it up all nice and neat and the next job, he does it the same way as the first job. Almost everyone of them is the same. I just don't get it.
I had a guy do something similar.
I had him pulling cables and and we where pulling home runs.
I had about 15 wires going in the same direction all with their separate roll of cable.
So the idea is to start at 1 end of the building, pull all 15 cables at the same time and at each Tv stop pulling that 1 wire so in theory at the end of the run your only pulling 1 or 2 cables.
So what does this guy do? Starts pulling the cables in the opposite direction, 1 wire at a time.
Left him alone for 4 hours and he had only a few lines ran and on top of that cut them too short.
So meanwhile I had to go out the next day take everything he did down and run it again.
Then a few weeks later, he did the same thing to me on another job.
Wasted like 3 500 foot rolls of cable.
The other issue is general laziness. I had a 12 room motel with crappy Rg59 or really crappy RG6. The wire had not been used in years.
So we drive 5 hours with my tech, and the first thing he sees is the bundle of cables and wants to tone them out and try to use them for Directv.
Normally I would agree with him, but not knowing the condition of the cable I told him we should run all new wire. It was only going to take a few extra hours, but the way I figured it, if we had a service call it was an entire day trip to come back. So might as well run all new wire now and not have to come back.
He complained a little, bit I asked him if he was going to come back for free if it didn't work, and we just ran all new wire.
He agreed after explaining it that way.
If the job was close by I would have taken my chances.
