Birddog meter for sale 25 bucks.

I seen a craiglist ad for a birddog meter for 25 bucks needs new battery. No usb only low speed data port what do you think?

Which model is it? I have seen the first ones they came out with years ago go for that cheap.
No USB, means that is one of the earlier models. It is RS-232C.

Just make sure your computer has a serial port or you have access to a computer with one. They are getting more rare, but they are still included on some new mother boards, even the 270 chipset.
Who cares if it is "low" speed...so to upload a new sat list it will take 5 seconds instead of 2.
That is the only time you would ever use it as there are no longer in firmware upgrades for those older meters.

Be careful with those because a lot of knock-offs won't work on Windows 10. I have a knock-off PL2303 that won't work on Win10.

I didn't mention those, because they only work about 50% of the time, and it is hit and miss the ones that will work with Windows 10.

Actually most mother boards have a com port header on them. $4 at amazon plug it in make sure in your Bios that the serial port is turned on and you are good to go.

Just picked it up today lights up and works for right now. It showed me DN satellites but i can add more to it. I got the cables too. I just need a new battery for it what do you think. The guy used to install DN for Ligtel in Kendellville so he said he didnt any more.

If you have a local Battery Plus, they will re-cell your battery.

Hint: To be more sensitive on the weaker FSS satellites, change the BER to log in the main set- up screen.
