Birdview Satellite Dishes Logo's

OK I sending the word out to all of you who have a Birdview Dish, or just have copies, photo's or even paper work of such a logo for Birdview send them to me! Most of the decals that are now on a Birdview Dish are really deteriorated through the years. So if you have any, even if they aren't the best of condition. I can take the good parts and copy and paste them into one good piece. I need them in a large file so I have the most pixels to work with. Please send to me in a .jpg format. After working on the graphic art piece we would like to have them sent out to be screen printed on clear vinyl that will adhere to your own Birdview dish. Personally I'm doing this not to make a quick buck. I'm doing this so that we all can benefit of having a new looking Birdview Logo on our dishes. So at this time I'm collecting all photo's, and graphic art work for this project. After that we will need to know how many would be interested in getting one to cut the cost for printing them.

The logo is in a picture of the serial number plate in my thread. Sorry, there's not much left on the front of the dish, but I can take a closeup of that if you want. I also have it on the receiver.

does anyone live near Olathe or Paola KS? If I recall, there was a large Birdview office or factory in one of those 2 cities when we went through there several years ago... I could be wrong but... If someone lives there and I am correct, the Chamber of Commerce probably has good pictures in their achives.
OR if someone has the manufacturing city on a dish or something, contact C of C and see....

Someone put a satellite view of the former Birdview Factory in a thread somewhere in this Forum a couple of years ago (maybe 3 years ago). I think it was in Kansas City, if I remember correctly..?

Just saw the serial plate mentioned above -- Chanute KS... Now to find out where that is an see if CoC lists it still! My computer is slow, so someone else may have it days before I would -- and it is now the weekend.

The Manufacturing was in Olathe KS, I am pretty sure. The headquarters was in Chanute KS. That is the information on the plates on the dishes and mounts all say.

Haven't heard from Harold in a long time.

While I dont have any logos, and I couldn't find one on the web, do you mind if i just make a logo?

We want it to be as close to the original as possible and I'm not sure what you have. You say you don't have any of the graphic art work?

Yes that is a good one to go by. Yes it's missing some of the original artwork, however I think I can fillin the missing caps. Plus what ever else I can get from all of you. Remember if it large I can do the detail work a lot easier then I can reduce it to a normal size. You can't take a small image and blow it up as it will get all fuzzy if you know what I mean. Send it to me please in a ".jpg" file format.

Did a google groups search for Birdview and found lots of posts and company history.

This business:

Was noted as being formed after Birdview shut down sometime in 2000. The poster said the service company was formed by former employees after the company was moved from Kansas to the Washburn satellite receiver factory in Missouri The Washburn company later shut down.

I'll try to find some more info.

Thanks Fred and Al, I think that we are on a good start now as to seeing if there are any records available to get the graphic artwork. We may also need to get some of the officers of that company to get an OK for us to dulicate the logo's for our dishe. Just to keep it legal!

I've thought what I'd do if I ever found a Birdview dish growing in my back yard.
First, being dirty and streaked like all the used ones are, wouldn't stop it from working quite well. -
So, maybe I wouldn't do anything.

The cleaning chemicals and pressure-wash Linuxman found so helpful at restoring the surface, didn't do the aging decal any good.
Most dishes I've seen were bare after cleaning.

Taking a photo of a reasonable decal or company logo with a 7 to 10 megapixel camera, set for close-up, should give a decent source to work from.
You want to photograph it square, or perpendicular to the surface.

While the camera will probably put out .JPEG format, once you get the file into the computer, you should always save it in some non-lossy format.
BMP, TIFF, and maybe GIF come to mind, but I'm open to input on that subject.
And probably NOT in 256 color palette.

Since the logo is so simple, it should be possible to recreate a decent master from a very faded and chipped up photo.
Certainly, anyone with any photo touch-up , PhotoShop, or even Paint experience should have no trouble rendering a new master.
Even if it looks bad along the edges when hand-held, once it's on the dish, you won't be able to see any minor imperfections from 8 feet away.

And though I get the idea from pictures that the original logo wasn't so big, I'd certainly want one that filled up an 8"x11" format.

Nothing wrong with using cheap $1 cans of glossy spray paint from Walmart or elsewhere.
Afterwards, you might spray over it with clear matte to knock off any reflection.

Thanks for the great advise. I do a lot of my work with the .jpg format, however I do also save other same copies of it in a BMP, TIFF, PSP and other files for different programs I work with. If its a photo a jpg is good to save it in. I use the .gif mostly for transparent images. I really like your idea of using a stencil and using paint! Great Idea!!:

Im trying to be a critic, but why go to all the trouble to have a logo on your dish? No one ever looks at it, and the is no 42nd annual birdview-logo-watch-athon. The fbi isnt going to give you the chair for not having a logo on it. What Id do is slap a big ford, chevy or dodge logo on it, bam, problem solved. My winegard dish has a chcunk out of its logo, but Im not going to hire leonardo divinchi to come out and repaint it. Its not going to make it get any better signal. My local target store has the T letter burnt out of its neon sign, I've never seen a group of people with pickets and pitchforks wanting to have it fixed, or blonde chicks asking me when did the new ARGET store opened.

As said before, Im not trying to be a Smart-***, but its just to much like work to go and print a logo and crawl to the top of the dish to slap it on it.

But then again, maybe if its something you want to do, go right ahead. Just print out the winegard logo and stick on there, no one wil ever know the diff.

Sure is an ugly logo... but please don't take offense, if I were lucky enough to have one of those in my backyard, I would want the authentic logo on there too.
