I still have an issue with a black screen on startup of my Hopper Plus, Joey 4s, and Wireless Joey 4s. Also happens when coming out of watching an app. Clicking the channel up or down button gets the live TV started. This has been going on for several software versions. I am presently on software version H389. Does anyone else have this issue? Do I have a hardware issue? Please help brittanygarden and HipKat!! Thanks
 
I have the black screen, not at startup, but within about a minute of startup, or of starting a recorded show or of switching to an app.It goes away on its own within seconds. I have the H3 and an older TV. Also going on for multiple software updates. Since this problem seems to be far from universal among users, my guess is it could be a hiccup in the handshake protocol.

I don't have that issue with my Hopper 3, just my Hopper Plus.
 
This black screen issue has haunted us in various forms for several years now.
Just like the skip forward/Back issue that we get truck rolls on.

It's very frustrating and costly that Dish avoids targeting these issues for permanent fixes

If this black screen issue was caused by some software update (That's my opinion. I did not have this in the past.) what can a technician do at subscriber's house? Does he somehow reset the system?
No matter what your software version reads, put your Joeys in standby and try to do a manual software update. That's been the only fix I've seen work

Update the Hopper but there's no promise it will work. I've SEEN it work but I've had guys tell me there were times it didn't work
That hasn't worked for me. I've updated my Hopper Plus most of the past software updates. This black screen issue started about six updates ago.

The black screen issues are incredibly weird. Because some people will never have issues and some people have constant issues even after replacing every single component and receiver in the house. Then it may work after a software update and then start again on the next update. Nobody really knows what causes it or why it only affects some people and not others.
