Here's a blast from the past.

I was cleaning out office (many years of clutter) and found a brand new in box, never been opened, never been used Dish Network 311 Receiver (2003 vintage)! I have no idea why I have this thing!?!? I can only guess that Dish sent to me to replace one of my old 501s that started getting sick, and never charged me for it or never requested it's return. I've been through three house moves since 2003 and somehow it's followed me through all of them (honest, I'm not a hoarder!).

Of course it's a boat anchor now and only valuable now as either a museum piece or just an electronic recycle item. I guess now I'm going to have to find something else to hold that stack of paper down it was sitting on.

Hmm. Brand new out of the box means it would be able to take a software upgrade potentially from a different satellite - as in, is Bell Canada still using those or did they go all MPEG-4 too?

The 311 used a different modulation scheme to encode the audio and video into the broadcast stream. I don't think there is anything in the sky that it could see and produce a picture from. But, I could be wrong - first time this hour.
My old dp510 got satellite 110 last month (when my 500 wasn't ruined) and it got to channel LTD11 and HELLK whatever that means. It was a black screen and no sound. Idk what it's supposed to do

I'm not sure if you would know but what is on these 5 channels?
I don't know specifically, but "UP29" was a 'channel' that Dish put on transponders before active channels were added. LTD11 was also something behind the scenes for transponders - I can't remember exactly, but someone told me the "TD" part is "transmission data." I can't remember the rest of it or the uses. All the channels that are above 9999 was internal information or redirected to something more user friendly. A lot of those channel numbers were redirects to VOD content, or messages that would be displayed on a receiver. Sort of how when you go to 199 right now for Dish Scapes there is the message "Watch this Dish Scape and have a chance to win" - those messages were stored about 10000. I see SPRT+ and channel 44604 - my guess that is the Sport Plus channel in the Greek package - and is currently channel 26518.

Cool! Is the screen supposed to be black or is it a signal issue

I think I have a 510 . I do have a 622 922 and a hopper sitting in my basement. Several switches . I remember the days of buying all of the newest satellite equipment as soon as it came out. I still have my original dish 500 self install kit with the plastic compass. I hooked up the dish so many times I can walk out and point it blindfolded. I think I have a built in compass. If they switch back to 110 and 119 it will be time to break out the old compass and look for signals between the trees .
