Cancelled Platinum HD

Why pays $10 or more for HD platinum, if u can get HBO or Showtime for same price!!. HBO or Showtime is better & more channels compare to the old hack MGM and HDNET!!

Why pay $10 for HBO or Showtime, when I can get Cenemax for $.01

I too forgot about PlatinumHD, and yes, I'm still paying for it. But Universal HD, HDNet Movies, and MGM HD are frequently watched in my household (the last 2 because they are essentially commercial-free) so I probably won't be dropping it anytime soon. I was never a fan of "premium" channels but in essence that's what PlatinumHD is! If they don't bring back Smithsonian (looks like that's a done deal!) then maybe I'll need to reconsider and spend that $10 for a different package...

When enough new HD channels are added into the "Turbo Gold" package, I may switch from HD Absolute and drop the platinum package in the process of switching to lessen the price increase.

I dropped Platinum last month because I started to look at channels I had and actual channels I watched. I never watched anything on Platinum! Cut that and my premium stations and saved just under $40 a month. I will need that when baseball season begins and my Direct sub starts up.

I'm planning on dropping it after the free 3 months as well. I've DVRed MAYBE one movie from HDNet Movies and MGM each, don't care about fishing, and I think it's BS that NBA HD and NHL HD should be in that package rather than in the matching tiers with the SD channels, so I'm not going to be hijacked for 10 bucks a month just for those (It's not like the Hawks or Thrashers get any national TV time anyway and I don't follow any other teams )

For me, I am big on the NBA channel. I just started the free three month preview a couple of months ago, but I will keep it until the NBA regular season is over; then I will drop it.

Add my name to the list of people who gave up the Platinum package. Just a few minutes ago I went to my account on the dish network web site and removed the platinum pack from my account. I am not one of those to drop programming on a whim, but since losing (programming that shouldn't be mentioned lest a small war ensue) and then Smithsonian I have not been happy with this package. The addition of CI as a "premium HD channel" which contains A&E Networks brand of stretch-o-vision, an unatractive Universal channel with poor programming and commercial cuts at seemingly random points in the programs made me take a critical look at what programming I really watch on that package. It came down to HDNet Movies and MGM movies. Looking back for a few months and ahead for a week, I saw NOTHING I cared to watch or, if I did, there was an alternative somewhere else.

I see no advantage to these very weak 5 channels (Universal, MGM, HDNet Movies, CI and WFN) and at $10 it is ludicrously overpriced considering the content!

The funny thing is that when I dropped the package, I was offered HBO and Starz for free for 3 months! Since I already have AEP, I will be seeing a $20 credit on my bill for the next three months minus the $10 monthly charge for the awful platinum HD will make my bill a lot easier to swallow for a little while anyway.

After reading about what is really left in platinum (how come I never checked for myself prior to this?) I too dropped platinum. Maybe if enough drop platinum it will be noticed and they will do something positive about it.

I checked my offers this morning and they are making me an offer I may not be able to refuse, Platinum for 3 mo free. Yes I will cancel on June 9th again....

Platinum should be reduced to $5.00 if they want to get any subs to keep it . Directv only charges $4.99 a month . The only reason why they ever charged $10.00 a month before was to pay for the VOOM channels that are long gone.

I signed up for the 3 free months of Platinum. After a month I realized I would never use this so I went to online chat to cancel and was told she would make it automatically cancel after the free promo period. Well, I just got charged $10 for it since it was after the 3 month period. I went back to chat and they only wanted to give me partial refund. After repeating that I wanted a full refund about 10 times he finally said OK, I will give you the $10 and cancel Platinum.

Here is it 5 days later. I see the $10 credit but see Platinum is still on my programming.... Ugh.. They must like keeping people on this useless plan.

Just did another online chat and he said they "dropped the ball" and didn't remove the package. He promised I wouldn't be charged anymore and was apologetic.

Most packages have money sinks in them but platinum is the worst. Don't think there is anything in that package that I would consider paying extra for. Of course if it was rolled into a TurboHD Gold package, its combined value might be appealing as an upgrade.

TurboHD seems like the way to go but is not an option for me until MSNBC and Speed are included as HD channels.

Wish we could do a la carte programming but that would never fly as some channels would go out of business.

So.... I think this looks like what I expected. My bill had gotten over $100 before I did this. Not even sure if Turbo would save me much considering I'd have to give up some channels I really watch. And if I spent $75 at the local cable company I'd get less. I think I'll sit tight for a while.

To be fair, DISH doesn't carry NHL-SD. There is no "matching tier".

I'm watching it right now on an SDTV. I was with Comcast when the channel was created but I vaguely remember hearing that Dish was only providing the HD feed at first, but it is definitely available in SD now unless my receiver is magically converting it .

Yes, originally it was only available in HD but they added the SD version a ways back.

I just dumped Platinum HD, HBO, Cinemax, Multi-Sport, and Home Protection. I'll be saving a small fortune. HDNET Movies was OK and I get NBATV with League Pass. I just wasn't watching the other channels enough.

Yes, originally it was only available in HD but they added the SD version a ways back.

Bizarre...looks like it's only included with the multisport package. I had no idea.

EDIT- Which means some people are actually paying for it twice.
