Why no abc-8 ,and will we ever see it! Thanks Jim

Simple answer! WTNH is owned by LIN. LIN wants too much money from Directv, and most cable companies, to use their hd signals.

It's probably more likely that WTNH gets sold by LIN, than LIN actually coming to terms with DirecTV. However, I thought the same about Tribune with WTIC, but they suprisingly made a deal. But HD locals have been on-air in Hartford with DirecTV for over a year now, and if you ask WTNH about it, they'll tell you that nothing has changed, and that you need an antenna.

This really does make me mad - even more now with all of these new HD channels. As we have stopped watching SD (maybe about 20% of the time now) and when watching new primetime shows going from HD (in fact IMHO really GREAT quality HD) to crappy SD feed on a 42" TV it really shows.

OK - sorry to vent

IIRC, you were trying to get WTNH dt ota. Did you have any luck with it?

Luckally, WTNH-DT (digital channel 10) seems to have a very strong signal, and far reach. Definitely give a shot to getting the OTA channel.

Yeah WTNH-8 is a good signal. I'm in Cheshire and get it with no problems OTA. Just to warn you though, WTNH8 HD is nothing to write home about. Its not as bad as WVIT30, but out of the 4 big locals, it is the 3rd best out of the 4. For me its Fox, CBS (its really close though), WTNH, and WVIT in terms of best to worst.

no luck -- i'd need a good size out door unit as I live in Torrington....

and the other locals via DirecTV come in great!

I have a relative in Torrington, and he can hardly pick up anything OTA, even with a small outdoor antenna. Looks like you'll probably need one of the "purple" rated antennas in order to have a chance of pulling in WTNH-DT.

Yeah you're kinda F-ed if you live in torrington, unless you get a really powerful antenna and by some miracle don't live BELOW the big mountain that's in the town (I'm thinking of the area on Rt 202.. near the top of the mountain near where Wendys is.) My ex lives in Torrington and they got Dish HD and I looked into getting them an antenna so they could get locals in HD (complaining about D*.. E* has NONE of our locals in HD.) A look at antennaweb will show that you're not very close to anything in terms of distance. OTA in Torrington is kinda DOA...
