Detroit Tigers

This team will either make it to the playoffs or not with thier pitching, either it will come around now that they are just about back to full strength or the will continue to struggle and Not make the playoffs.

That said, Sheffs' bat would help the overall scheme of things.
Remember, the Tigers played pretty well in the beginning of the season and Sheff was pretty much non existant, struggling thru the first few months getting use to his new situation, but one he started hitting, he stung everything.

The Tiger's chances hinge on the return of Sheffield and Rogers. Rogers is needed to bring some stability to the pitching, as for Sheff - well just look at their rcord in April when he wasn't hitting, and their record without him in the lineup now. For all Ordonez has done this year, Sheffield is really the reason when the Tigers are winning. Just one man's opinion - I could be wrong (but I doubt it.)

You are right,
When Sheff is in there I've seen pitchers pitch around him to get to Magglio while he's leading the league in hitting :)
Sheff gives them a perticular swagger, I like it !

Even if we make the playoffs, our rotation won't scare anyone. This staff is lost without Rogers. What has happened to Bonderman and Verlander? Neither has done well since Verlander's no-no.

Is it really asking too much, if I say I'd like to see the Tigers win 2 in a row? Tonight would be a great time to do this. Bullpen comes up huge yesterday. Bad news - Jurrjens on the DL. We can't seem to catch a break from the DL. Jimbo, i think Bonderman's problems also stem from the lack of a third pitch. You need 3 pitches when your other 2 aren't at top form. Verlander is claiming that they have noticed a technique change on film, and that he will correct this. We'll see. Going back few posts (about Maybin moving to center), I don't see this happening, unless Maybin can't get a handle on LF. I think he just needs some time to familiarize himself out there. Besides Granderson, in my book has become the best CF in the league, which considering the competition out there, is quite remarkable (Hunter, Sizemore, Mathews, etc...). Going back to Bonderman, I've got to rank him as one of the biggest disappointments of the second half. It's about time he became the pitcher everyone thinks he should be. Definitely needs to get his head straight and find a 3rd pitch.

Yes, they have a chance to win 2 in a row for the first time in what 2 months ???
I hope Verlander gets it straightened out, we need him.
We also need Bonderman, he's remarkable, he can be Sooooo good and then struggle so bad, very inconsistant.

As for Granderson, I would like to see him make the All Star game next year , if he plays like he is this year.... unfortunatly, many votes go to the veterans weather they are playing like an all star or not .

Bonderman was reallynot that good in the first half either , he had the impressive record, but if you really looked at it, the wins were mainly the games the Tigers out scored the other teams.

BTW, I am really getting tired of MLB's blackout rules, I don't think the Tigers have been available on ESPN all year and they are getting B/O onthe channels in the 90's as well.....

Why is it that IF YOU PAY EXTRA FOR A SERVICE YOU STILL GET BLACKED OUT ???? Come on MLB wakeup and change the rules ....

Well,
Justin Verlander was ON tonight :)
3 hits 0 runs in 7 innings.
Offense showed up as well, beating the Yankees 16- 0

TIGERS finally WON 2 in a row and 3 out of 4 !!!

Ya hooooo !!!

Now, don't go to KC and not show up, it's thier turn to gain some ground :)

Is this - dare I say it - a winning streak? I guess the time spent looking at the video of his no-no was time well spent, he definitely was the Verlander that's earned the rep as one of the games finest rising stars. This series should shore up any confidence problems the team was having. Hopefully it will carry forward through this important road trip. Actually all the games from here out are equally important, given the number that remains. Jimbo, I totally agree with you about the blackout rules, at best, they make no sense. If we're paying for it, we should get it. By the way, the game was available in Detroit in HD on Fox sports last night. Aren't you in the same coverage area I'm in?

The Tigers have not made money an issue the last few seasons - check out their bracket busting bonus's and salaries given to the past few 1st rd. picks, not to mention some of the players on the current roster.

I don't count this as a winning streak until it gets on a roll, like 5- or more, of course this year , thats asking alot.

They still are not giving me the FSN Detroit in HD, just the SD signal, I gave up trying to convince them seeing it should be on when the new sat goes live ... If not I 'll re address the issue.

Jimbo - you should be good right in time for the playoffs, when they go to national channels anyway.

You'll be good for the Wings season though :)

Ugly start with the Royals, hate to say must win, but sure would help if they could win 3 in KC.

Well it doesn't look good for game 1 vs KC...
