Sorry guys, but if A-Rod's wife has a say, (and I bet she does) there won't be any moves to Detroit.
No... she don't get a say. There are many more women just like her in A-Rod's world. That makes her expendable!

Sorry guys, but if A-Rod's wife has a say, (and I bet she does) there won't be any moves to Detroit.
As I think more about A-Rod coming here, the more the economics seem to get in the way. Assuming another 3M coming through the turnstiles, A-Rods potential $30M a year works out to about a $10 a fan. I have no idea what the profit/loss sheet for the Tigers looks like, but assuming that Tigers may be finally showing a profit the last 2 seasons, I can see where his salary could drastically alter the profit line. I have no idea what TV, concessions, etc... bring in. Or what their overhead is. Having a hard time seeing this happen. Maybe somebody else who knows more about the Tiger's financials than I do, can shed some light here.
Doesn't Illich still own one of the pizza joints ?
Start buying from his company if you want A-Rod .......:
Of course the cost of that pizza will be going up as well
Paul,
You mentioned $ 10 per fan ... I'll gladly give that

Yes, Illitch still owns the LIttle Ceasar's Pizza franchise he started 40 years ago.
He also own the Red Wings. It is widely speculated (and not been proven false), that in 2001, when Illitch unloaded Jeff Weaver and, Todd Jones, and Damion Easly and took nothing but cash in return for the Tigers, all of the sudden the Red Wings were paying big bucks to bring in Brett Hull, Dominick Hasak, and Luc Robitaille... but the Illitch said he did not have the money for players of that caliber for years. The rumor is perhaps he funded those big contracts for the big name Wings players that year through the unloading of big contracts from the Tigers roster.
I say, turn the tables... unload Hasek, and Chelios who they pay big bucks for in the Wings' organization, and fund A-Rod for the Tigers!
Don't look for Mariono Rivera in a Tiger uniform anytime soon. I'm guesssing Todd Jones will be offered a one-year contract, splitting time with Zumaya as closer. Signing Rivera would only slow Zumaya's ascension to full time closer. I still believe A-Rod is a financial impossibility.

Detroit Tigers should do their damnest to get Alex Rodriguez.
I think people are underestimating Rodriguez, and it's really about money more than everything else. Besides, this thing about the wife -- she can stay put in New York or wherever.
It's the money, dummy!
Wanna bet???![]()
I think his psyche is heavily dependent on his wife.
Braves trade SS Renteria to Tigers
Two minor-league prospects acquired in deal for veteran infielder

The Braves made the first big trade of the offseason Monday, sending veteran shortstop Edgar Renteria to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for a pair of top prospects including a center fielder and a hard-throwing pitcher who will compete for a rotation spot in 2007.
Rookie right-hander Jair Jurrjens went 3-1 with a 4.70 ERA in seven starts for Detroit after being promoted from Class AA Erie, where he gained notice by going 3-0 with an 0.78 ERA in his final three starts, with 24 strikeouts and only one walk in 23 innings.
Center fielder Gorkys Hernandez just turned 20 in September and was named the MVP of the Class A Midwest League after batting .293 with 25 doubles, four homers and 54 stolen bases in 124 games. He was voted the league's most exciting player and fastest baserunner by league managers.
The Braves also agreed to pay an undisclosed amount of cash to Detroit, which was aggressive in its pursuit of Renteria, who has been outstanding in two seasons for the Braves but was expendable because of the emergence of Cuban shortstop Yunel Escobar.
The trade opens a starting job for Escobar, who had an outstanding rookie season for the Braves, batting .326 with 25 doubles, five homers and a .385 on-base percentage in 94 games.
Renteria, 32, hit .332 with 30 doubles, 12 homers and 57 RBIs for the Braves in 124 games this season, and the five-time All-Star will be reunited in Detroit with manager Jim Leyland. Renteria had the game-ending hit for Leyland's 1997 Marlins in the seventh game of the World Series against Cleveland.
Renteria will make $9 million in 2008 and be eligible for free agency after the season.
"We appreciate the talent and professionalism that Edgar Renteria brought to us the last two years and we wish him the best in his career," Braves general manager Frank Wren said in a statement released by the team. "Today we were able to acquire two special players. We are extremely excited to be able to add a starting pitcher who we believe will compete for a spot in our rotation next spring, as well as an exciting and gifted outfielder who possesses tremendous speed for the future."
Rumor of a possible trade with Minnesota.
Andrew Miller and Camron Maybin for Johan Santana.
Two top prospects in all of the majors to Minny for Johan.
Would you do it ?
ps, This will tell us what the Tigers REALLY think of these two, perticularly Maybin

edit: Also Todd Jones mentioned that if he could not play with Detroit next year, he would like to go closer to home....
Could we trade him to Atlanta for Jir Jirginnes ???
