Dielectric Plate

I purchased a universal C\Ku band LNB (BSC621-2D) with scalar to experiment with C-band, however it did not come with a dielectric plate. My understanding is that it is used to convert linear polarized signals to circularly polarized signals.

This LNB will be installed on a non-motorized 90cm GeoSat dish for experimentation purposes only until I get a larger dish. I can receive plenty of Ku birds, with a universal LNB, but this new device arriving without the dielectric plate concerns me.

My questions are, will I really need one at this point and if so, can I fabricate one using Teflon or fiberglass?

For legal FTA reception, as far as I know there is nothing out there that you are able to get from circular signals. The only thing that you would get is encrypted stuff.

The dielectric slab allows reception of C-band circular polarity signals. it does not allow reception of KU-band circular signals.

Starting at 53w and eastward there are several C-band satellites with circular polarity. The dielectric insert will only be inserted if tuning a circular C-band satellite. Inserting the dielectric slab on a linear C-band satellite will dramatically reduce the signal.

You should contact the reseller and request that they ship the missing slab in case you ever wish to tune a circular c-band satellite.

Don't expect much from that LNBF on a 90cm dish. It may provide a few C-band channels,but unlikely to provide both C and KU as it is designed for a much lower FD dish.

With my mini (Baby, micro, tiny) - BUD experiment on a 90cm dish, I have -never- received one hint of a circular signal. I've tried several times, but to no avail. So, don't let a missing plate deter you from playing around...you'll probably won't get anything except a few linear channels anyway
