I think most could live with half or two thirds the channels for a little bit of a discount. There's probably 20% of the channels getting 80% of the fees. If there was ala carte then it would promote those channels to offer better content. I think it would also attract more customers to those that start doing ala carte first.

A la carte will never happen en mass and is not all its cracked up to be anymore..

Comedy & Spike are the only 2 that may be missed by nearly everything they have can be found streaming or online. So......

is there any truth to the online rumor that Viacom even removed their content from Amazon? They're willing to slit their own throats with the $1.99 per download just to prove a point????

It appears so... I have bought season 2 of MTV's Teen Wolf and the episodes are now gone from my video library. I suspect Amazon will restore them soon but not allow them to be purchased any more (they have done that in the past).

NOTE: THESE are episodes I have already PAID $2.99 each....

They still seem to be available on itunes.... Perhaps Apple has contract that does not allow vengeance pulls.

apple probably owns their soul. they probably have to leave them their to avoid getting sued for patent infringement

Doh! That's right. I have a couple of GTV's, and subscribe to Hulu+. But, I forgot that I use my TV, BDP, or Roku to watch it. (Actually, I've ditched the GTV's ever since the last update which left them useless.)

I already contacted Amazon about it. I have a feeling they pulled the page because they cannot sell them any more and they have to fix it so sales are no longer available. I have other shows that episodes are no longer for sale for, but I can still watch them in my library. I would expect them to have them back up tomorrow for watching if you already own them but now allow them to be bought.

yes, i have a few friends still in a contract that got this or very similar.

I'm glad directv isn't given in to Viacom. They could replace cmt with blue highways tv and tv land with metv or something similar also while at it they should take down the weather channel and replace it with weathernation alot of these channels have nothing but junk on them anymore

There are quite a few people I enjoy on the weather channel during hurricane season, so I'd be a bit disappointed to lose it, but it is nowhere near as valuable as a channel as it was 10 years ago or when I had cable

I don't understand the arguments being made by the armchair financiers and apparent board members of Viacom.

"Viacom made $X in profit last year and their CEO made $X in salary!! They clearly do not deserve this raise in rates!!!"

Last I checked, this is still America and Viacom has the right to pay their CEO what they think he is worth. (and apparently he his worth something because he is trying to squeeze every last penny out of DTV that he can) The same goes for their profit - Viacom has a right to make as much money as they can and charge what they THINK they're channel suite is worth.

The way to approach this is by using your wallet (action) and not your words. TV Subscribers (DTV or otherwise) line Viacom's pockets and if you have a problem with what Viacom is trying to charge, go to DTV and tell them to stand their ground. It's much more effective than taking your pitchforks to Viacom's door step and claiming "you make too much money."

In the end, the money comes from YOU and YOU have the power to control where it goes. This is part of the reason why we will see linear programming come to an end over the next 10 years - there are far too many options for people out there to watch specifically what they want, when they want at a reasonable price. This whole system of bundling crappy channels with good ones can only last so long. As more people attain the knowledge of getting around it, the more you will see them break away - especially since the cost of TV alone is approaching $100/month for the average household.

I think Viacom sees the blood in the water and is trying to grab every last cent until the gravy train comes to a halt.

When I would hear predictions that in the "near" future streaming and downloading media will be the norm, I use to think "No way! I especially won't go for that." But lately, with the amount of crappy channels and provider contracts disputes, I've seen that those predictions are becoming true. Hell, Dish is not only saying "Go for it!" They're giving you the tools to do it (free Roku.)

Maybe Dish is getting all it ducks in a row because it knows it very, very close to the old way of receiving your TV programs is changing fast. Satellite & cable providers are going to have to develop new ways to get in on it or risk fading away. It's almost like things are going back in time for Satellite & cable. The only ones who will still have to rely on them our people who live out in the boonies where Internet service is hard to come by, if at all. Like when cable & satellite first began.
