DirecTV dropping "Advanced Receiver Fee" for new accounts, devices now $10/month

Those are great ideas for D* to do, as far as the Sat side goes ...
Unfortunately, they waited about 10-15 years to long to make those changes ...

The Advanced Recvr Fee is ridiculous ... That fee use to be because of HD and DVR (maybe whole home too) ....

If they hadn't thrown all these addl fees for everything they can think of, they MIGHT still be alive. 😞

To make matters worse, did you say it was for New Subs only ?????????

What about the subs that are Still left ?
call in and threaten to cancel!!! always worked for us...

once the sat service dies. it's very unlikely that we would go over to DTV streaming since there's so many issues with our acct that no one can fix :eeek. our boxes are wide open and we get everything including PPV'S not that i'm complaining:biggrin. they know there's not a damm thing they can do about it. i find it funny they that they can't fix it:biggrin

What's wrong with the thread title? New satellite customers no longer have the $15 ARS fee and the receivers are now $10. New satellite customers still have the two year agreement.

Too bad they can't do that for existing customers even the ones that still pay for the $23 ARS and the Whole Home DVR fee. One the other hand I wonder if it would end up costing existing customers more depending on how many receivers they had?

It would be a price increase for me. Saving $15 ARS fee and adding $18 in TV access fees.

New SAT subs have No ARS Fee, but those with existing accounts will still have it ???
Yes but existing subs still only have the $7.00 for each receiver TV access fee while new subs have the $10.00 for each receiver TV access fee.

Only for Satellite, if you have any of the Internet versions, you can use TV apps or Roku type boxes instead, no fee.

Thats what I'm getting at ... They don't charge fees per TV for Streaming, they should drop them for Sat as well ...
That said, it's MUCH to LATE to try to do anything to help keep Subs Now .... 😞 :(

Not to defend them, but they do have to recoup the cost of designing, producing, shipping, and maintaining the physical equipment. If you want to use equipment, you really should have to either buy the box or pay to rent the box. Before you argue that they should just give boxes out, I trust that cost will just end up passed along into higher package fees in perpetuity.

Back in the day they used to charge TV Access fees per room that had a cable line in no matter if you had equipment or not - now THAT was some BS.

Well they do have the TV access fees on streaming if you get the receiver from DIRECTV.

Yes they do have the TV access fees on streaming if you get receivers from DIRECTV. You can also do the same with satellite and use the app and get rid of all your receivers except the Genie server. DIRECTV does not charge a TV access fee if you only have one receiver.

But again, you do not have to.

Plus the fact that a Roku is less expensive than a box rental.

Roku- lately anywhere from $39-99 each ( just bought a new model Ultra two weeks ago at $79 for my outdoor theater).

one Box Rental-$240 with a 2 year contract.

But again, you do not have to.
You do not have to on satellite either. There is no TV access fee on satellite if all you have is the Genie and then you can watch everything else on the app. (unless one of the channels you watch isn't on the app which is a possibility) 😁

OK, then make that FEE for the 1st Year .... $7 x 25 years x however many boxes ... thats a lot of money.
Another thing is, why can't the give you a price, and thats what it is, not, oh wait, we have to add Fees, Local this and that on to it and make up a few more fees while were at it, Plus Tax.

And they wonder why they are losing subs left and right.
