Hey guys, I just purchased a brand new house that still needs to be built. They're going to prewire the house with RG6 and I'm gonna have a computer network installed with RJ45 jacks in most rooms. My question is, can the satellite feed be fed into my existing cable lines? Or will I have cable lines coming from the satellite running all throughout my new house? Thanks.

Yes it can be all hooked together usually near the main grounding point of the building, they have to terminate it there anyway to ground it! Or a central location in your basement. I would run double the RG6 cable you think you will need! (three at least to each main location)

I think that it will be fine. Just make sure all lines meets at a central location. Also there shouldn't be splitters on any of the lines. you would need one or two (for a dvr) lines from the room to the central location

Go for the Cat5e for your computer network.

You could run two lines to each room if you want to use voip or a PBX phone system.

Thanks for the respones. How about a follow on question? You guys bring up interesting points regarding the DVR. Let's say I have a DVR and I want it in my living room and I hypothetically I only have one cable drop there. Why can't I split the cable there into the DVR? I know, basic question that I should know the answer to, however, I'm new to the satellite world, been a cable guy all my life and I just made the switch. Thanks again guys.

The signal drops when you try to split it, so it won't work. I'd run four RG6 to each location. So you might want a second service like Voom, you might need one for OTA and the DVR is going to use at least two. Good luck!

Would also be a good idea to think about running all the cable in your house to a demarc located in say, the master bedroom closet. can have all the phone go there too, and any alarm stuff.

and to make it easier on your installer and the esthetic look of your house have 4 wires run from the demarc loaction to the se corner of the house. the nothing wil be showing but the dish. also make sure a min 16 awg wire is ran to the se corner as well and a place to ground everything inside the demarc box well depending where you are in the country, feel free to message me if ya need to.
