Dish 500 - one satellite on both lnbf ????

I am installing a Dish 500 with Legacy twin lnbf.
After a lot of fiddling around I finally managed to get a strong signal on 119. When I select 110 on the menu I still see a very strong signal and a message that says that I am pointing to the wrong satellite (119).

I don't get it. How can the 110 lnbf receive the signal from 119 satellite when 119 is also receiving signal from 119?

Just to be sure I power cycled the receiver and ran a switch test, I also connected the receiver to the secong connector on the twin but I always get the same results.

So far my inclination is to think I have a faulty switch inside the twin lnbf. That would make sense because the receiver would try to tell the switch to select the 110 lnbf but it would not switch and therefore I would always see the signal from 119.

Thanks,

You're aiming at 119 with the 110 eye. Cover the 110 eye with aluminun foil, aim using the 119 eye and then do a check switch. 110 should fall into place.

If you continue to have the same problem, clear the switch matrix. Unplug satellite feed, run check switch. Plug the satellite feed and run check switch again.

RandallA thanks for the suggestion.
As a matter of fact last night, before it got too dark I removed the twin lnbf and installed my old single lnbf in the 119 slot of the Y mount and now I am still able to see channels from 119. This is telling me that I should have the dish pointed to the correct satellite, don't you think?

Yes, but the 110 eye in the twin needs to see 110 not 119. You could also try that old single LNB in the 110 slot, run check switch and most likely you'll get 119. I still believe you need to re-aim the dish. Also make sure you have the skew. azimuth and elevation correctly setup and then aim.

The most important thing is to have the Dish 500 skew set correctly and the mounting post dead on for vertical. For you to have a Legacy twin you must have bought used equipment did you reset the skew for your location?

You guys may be right. my mounting post is not really plumb due to the way the roof goes.
I guess I will just have to reposition the post somewhere else so that it's perfectly vertical.

Thanks.

Yeah, rotate your dish 9 degrees. All should be well. This is maybe the most common problem, because it is counter to logic that both LNBs would pick up one signal like that, but that's part of the multi-sat parabolic dish geometry.

Fixed it!
I had to just change the skew a tiny bit!
Now I have 119 with a signal strength og 116 and the 110 with signal strength of 98. Is this good or should I try to get the 110 a little stronger?

Thanks to everyone!

Good job, those are strong numbers. What TPs are you using to report the signal strength? Try to use TPs 11 or 12.
