I understand the confusion, just keep in mind the Sling adapter that is available with DISH is it's own device, it is not compatible in use with any app, computer program or set top box that has a Slingbox app. Slingbox is a different device. So the WD app works with a Slingbox only. (pro HD and newer)

I'll bet that's the real reason the Sling Extender was never released: no way to charge a monthly fee for it.

Oh, yes. Have not regretted getting the more expensive 500. I have both a Hopper and a TiVo connected that I can choose remotely.

The latest SlingBOXes use your BROWSER for viewing on PC or laptop, etc. I know many preferred the older players for viewing on the PC, laptop. So as not to add to any confusion, the Sling mobile Apps are for mobile devices; Slingplayer for Connected Devices are for use on connected devices such as WD Live, etc. While the Sling Player APP for mobile devices are outrageously priced at a one-time $15 purchase (that's a separate $15 purchase for EACH mobile device you want to watch your Sling content), the SlingPlayers App for Connected Devices are bundled for FREE on each of the connected devices such as the WD Live and Sony, etc. Did I still manage to confuse? Sorry.

I have to say, I do like the Sling experience on my WD Live Hub. It takes some getting used to, but it is the best player I've used, comparing it to my PC and both my Android tablet and Kindle HDX. I have to say that while the PC browser experience and the Android Tablet are adequate, the Kindle HDX is difficult to use and lacks good UI and NOT easy control. There is a delay when entering commands on the WD (as is the case in all the Sling Apps I've used), but the WD provides the closest to the at home with the Dish box experience. If you are using high bandwidth, the delay in not at all a problem, but I don't know if it is worse lower bandwidths. I for one am just PLEASED to be able to view my stuff remotely at no extra charge. It is a great solution for those who need Dish in an additional room, but where the additional monthly expense of a Joey just doesn't make sense, and in really good quality if your home network is decent.

Finally, I should add that the Connected Devices such as WD allow for a DIRECT connection from the device straight to the TV and really good quality and a just like at home experience. Otherwise, you have to use the PC or laptop app and connected that to your TV (can be a pain) or in some way use your mobile device and send to to the TV via wire or RF, but also a pain. Man, the whole Sling options can be really confusing.

Agree 100%. I have the WDTV boxes around the house and at vacation residences and they are awesome for Sling use.

I would say its pretty much fact esp after the virtual joey price. I have a great experience (esp inside the home) running the current dish anywhere app on my tablets so there is no technical reason they could not release apps for the stb's or streaming sticks. It would be a great way to get tv to those seldom used tv's but tv's I would still like to have service on from time to time (just not enough to pay the joey fee). Even if they would just add chromecast support to the existing android app. They know they have a good racket going with the equipment pricing and we have no other option so I don't expect to see either option anytime soon.

A great feature for someone like my wife is being able to automate what starts when you turn on the WD Player. When we are in Florida she likes to watch the Ct news. With the WD player I have it set to start the Slingplayer app when the WD player turns on, and I have the Slingplayer set to start the Ct slingbox automatically. At that point it is already set to the OTA channel she likes. It really is close to a Cable/Satellite experience.

Sounds like you need a MK808B or RK3188 android stick. They connect via hdmi.

Splitters/switches and extenders are a much more popular (and sure-fire) solution to in-home viewing.

They both work, but the MK902/RK3188 is a beefier unit. Of course it costs more. They work exactly the same as any android tablet. This is quick and easy for someone on the go. It provides a vast array of options.

For in home, harshness is correct. a hardwired solution would be better.

Yes. Samsung Note 2 7.0. The Ivew saw the tablet, but I couldn't figure out how to get it to mirror the tablet screen. The instructions were rather vague.

It's pre installed. (judging from my WD player all are automatically installed) It's under live apps. Be aware if you are using a theme UI some do not have the live app catagory. You have to be using the stock theme, them make Slingplayer a favorite. Then you can use any theme and slingplayer will be under favorites by hitting the down arrow on the home screen. (Not using the category favorites)

Did you ever try to log onto DA from the WD Media Player. I just tried it and it looks like it wants to log on to Sling, not DA. If you did, tell me how you did it.
