DISH / Blockbuster Announcement Discussion Thread!

Scott that wasn't the issue. It is the issue of when the store issues the credit for the mailed disk. It was claimed that the store in SF delays the credit until the person returns the store disk, my store manager says they issue the credit immediately. This is to be more consistently delayed by the new Dish plan according to Ira. Anyway, its a moot point since the bottom line is the store exchange does nothing to increase your turn ratio if the store delays the return credit.
 
What about other devices beyond DISH receivers?

I keep reading that the service will work with DISH receivers, but what about Blockbuster On Demand devices, like TiVos and Blu-rays? Blockbuster On Demand Devices

I'd love a better (DISH) receiver, but I also don't want to get hit with a DVR fee, so I'd rather do the streaming with a Vizio Blu-ray that has the Blockbuster app.

Some of us have the Welcome Pack, will there be a minimum package that a subscriber must have to get the $10 Blockbuster add-on?

Blockbuster pays more per Rental Disc, I read at Deadline Hollywood(a couple years ago) that for discs at release date it is $18.00 and after the 28 days it is $11.00 per disc, Netflix of course signed the deal with the studios for the cheaper option.

Its a great deal I already pay the 10.00 for platinum and 21,29 for three blue rays and they took the streaming away .
Now all for 20.00 If the streaming works you could not ask for more value
 
To answer the posts that this is only good for Dish subs, well, yes! You don't get business tactics I guess. Dish is their main business. They have been differentiating themselves by offering more movies in more packages, usually for less, and not on sports. This further distinguishes the customers they are going after and want to keep. Eventually you can bet there will be even more incentives for non Dish customers, but really there already is one... free for a year to new subs, for what already is and now even more will be the most popular package add on. The speed with which this came together is amazing, and obviously geared to their customers for a reason.

I agree, built in sling and now this. If they get Hulu, look out. Bad economy, look for ways to give people more for the same money.
 
As expected, Dish Network today unveiled their streaming video service that they plan to run under the Blockbuster brand. Dubbed "Blockbuster Movie Pass," the service bundles many of the existing Blockbuster services, including games by mail, DVDs by mail, and video streaming, with access to premium movie channels and Dish VOD. Only current Dish subscribers can subscribe to this service, which will cost users $10 a month, or $40 a year if they subscribe to Dish's America's Top 200 package.

For those who had Absolute you can drop it to get the $10 credit. You then pay the $40 if you have at200.

I understand that is correct. It was something negotiated before the bankruptcy sale so those contracts went with the company. Will that continue- depends on contract renewals next year.

I think you'll need to cancel the one you signed up for online or through the store and sign up for the one through Dish. If Platinum, then I believe the signup is automatic because it is added to your existing package.

Thats what I figure Ill have to do. Ill cancel my BB online account, then setup for the $20 tier with Dish.

This is where Dish does well - providing the non sports channels in HD as much or more than other providers, and movies. They obviously have decided to do what they do best, and let Direct cater to Sports, at least for now. Imagine if Dish can eventually get to full time RSN's in HD and carry all of them? Only those who have to have Game Day or the MLB package would have to go to Direct for sports.

Which is why I said the people it is good for is those that already have the platinum package. I must be really missing something, outside of epix, what do people actually watch on platinum I get half of those channels on my current package, I never watch epix, because of netflix, if I didn't have netflix I guess I might watch. I can honestly say I never watch SMC, MGM, HD Net, Palladia, sundance, universal, retro, shorts, logo(not gay), Mav TV(prefer actual porn). Again I am not trying to say its a bad deal. Because if you were already paying the $10 this is a free add on for you. But, and maybe this is just that my assumption was incorrect, and Im sorry for that, but my assumption was this was supposed to be an option for people to get rid of netflix. and going to my main question how does this get people to drop netflix? If you are NOT currently using the platinum pack, the $10 extra is basically what you could be spending with quickster(old netflix) for dvds, blu, and games. But who is going to drop netflix(which is now just streaming) for the 3000 titles they offer? I would take it and smile if I was paying for platinum already, but like my original question asked how does this make me give up netflix(streaming).

When BBO first started, when you exchanged a mailed disk for an in-store disk, the mailed disk exchanged was immediately credited as having been returned and a new disk mailed from the queue. I would take in 3 mailed DVDs on Tuesday morning to the store, exchange them for 3 in-store DVDs and the next day receive 3 more DVDs in the mail, so I would have 6 DVDs on hand. This lasted about a year, maybe less as it's been a while. The policy changed so that you received credit immediately for returning a mailed DVD used for an in-store exchange, but they didn't mail another DVD from your queue until you returned the store DVDs. I don't think this has changed. I quit BBO when the turnaround times became silly. What had been "send it in one day, they receive the next, and mail out a new one received the following day" became "send it in one day, they receive it 2 or 3 days later, mail another out a day or so after that". I hope that's improved.

In my experience, they still seem to receive on one day, and ship the next many times, not same day. I have a one day longer turn with them, compared to Nflix.
