dish mover screws with locals

dishcomm said:
that's very odd they took the locals down for that cust..I just installed a Dish mover for a cust from Denver and they still had locals from that city on their equip..In fact I had to get them switched for him.....Now, I have done Dish movers where the cust had no programmming..That's 'cause the receiver had been dormant( not connected to a dish ) for a while...
based on what my Wife/Kid tell me, the OTA mapping is toast. They still had (at least as of last night) the 8400 channels for Dallas.

We'll see.....

Theres more to it than the zipcode, I did an installation for a new customer in manchester michigan a year or so ago and he ended up having to get the lansing locals instead of the detroit locals based on the full address. His address was a washtenaw county, town of manchester address down to the zipcode but his property was on the jackson county line and into jackson county. I called dish up and asked about this and they said that he was only eligible for the lansing locals based on his address even though it had a zipcode for a detroit dma eligible market. Im not sure exactly how it works but it does seem to be based on more than just the zipcode, if dish had knowledge that %99.5 of the customers property was in a diferent county other than where the mailbox was located at but they knew.
I have had the opposite happen to me always..Here in NC rural mail routes are real intersting....Just last week, I did a job for a cust with a Richmond County(Charlotte DMA) zip..cust lived in Scoalnd County) Florence/Myrtle Beach DMA
Another in Montgomery County(Greensboro/W-S DMA) that had a Stanly County mailing addy for the the Charlotte DMA locals as well....Dish to my knowledge has no idea where geographically a property is located..All DMA issues go by zip code..To the best of my knowledge..In your case that customer or the sales partner may have told DN they lived in the county in question,.

Zip codes do cross county lines and if you were to use a mapping program that shows zip code outlines (Street Atlas by Delmore) it will show you pretty darn close where an address is in a zip code.

Now I'm sure the CSG system Dish uses knows where a house is if a little company Named "County Wide Directory LLC" in Iowa does. I use there county directories to find RR addresses and have yet to have a wrong location.

from my E* insider:
I've done some research and apparently the local channel mapdown is
linked to the zip code on the account. Since they updated the address
due to the Movers, your account reflects the new zip code so the mapdown
disappeared. It seems there isn't a workaround for this since the
underlying software is CSG (a billing company) and not proprietary Dish
software. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I also heard from someone at the other end of ceo@echostar.com, and he explained that the MAPDOWN is controlled by the account zip, but I should **NOT** lose the 8400 version of the Dallas Locals, until the actual move.

JFYI for folks changing DMA's on a dish mover, you'll lose the map down when they change the address in the system.

It's even more fun when a customers moves and wants to add a receiver. Then you just get a work order for an additional receiver with a note that the customer is moving. Then when you get to the house the tech has to sit and wait for the work order to be modified to have all the stuff for a dish mover put on it before starting the job. That can be a waste of an hour right there.

Dave nye: Yuk. That sounds like fun. NOT.

At least I **THINK** the workorder for mine is right (we'll find out in a week :) )
