Last nights "Inside the Green Berets" had a stunning PQ. I continue to be impressed with the PQ NatGeo has, especially on Dish. This channel has replaced Disc HD Theatre as my favorite.

I've watched some of the old factory documentaries and I know the PQ is better than the D* previews and I almost certain it looks slightly sharper than Comcasts picture.

I DVR'd that program but we're running low on space, so I got it from the SD channel. Even on there, the PQ was really, really good. I presume the source was HD or better and in cases like this, down-converts usually turn out excellent. I've seen the same on the various Discovery network channels when an HD program is played on the SD channel.

With the PQ of the HD green berets, Im sure the SD did look good.

I just got the first disc of Planet Earth in on Blu Ray, cant wait to watch it.

Comcast here is actually good, main reason Im on sat is the dvr and cost savings.

They have:
All locals in HD
All Premiums
A&EHD
MHD
DiscHD
UnivHD
TNTHD
ESPN and ESPN2
NatGeo
Getting ready to add Food and HGTVHD

What TV are you using ?

I was probably gung ho in stating that its slightly better than Comcast, becuase as far as I know Comcast stated they dont down rez anything.

I can state (IMHO)the D* previews of NatGeo are/were softer than E* and Comcast.

Sony 3LCD 46" E2000. Its a Rear Proj LCD, preferred it over DLP.

That is a Native 720p TV set - like my set and most HD sets.

NatGeoHD is a 720p channel (like ABC, FOX, ESPN and ESPN-2). So, it the same resolution are most sets, yet it requires less bandwidth from cable and satellite providers than 1080i channels. Dish has it on a transponder with 6 other HD channels, yet it still looks good.

The videophiles who have 90-inch 1080p sets and whine about "HD-Lite" will not find NationalGeographicHD to look as good as DiscoveryHD or HD-Net.

I think NatGeo looks better than DiscHD and HDNET any day of the week. I understand that it being native 720p might help, but I also dont see the macrblocking ive seen on DiscHD.

1080p is a slihgt hustle in the fact that it only matter is you have that 90" tv and sit only 4ft away from it.

Ive watched a 1080p blu ray demo on a 60" tv at best buy, doesnt appear much better than my 720p 46".

Discovery HD Mars Underground

Did you guys happen to catch Mars Underground on Discovery last night? PQ was also stunning on some of the HD shots also a lot of CGA but still beautiful to watch! I was also getting audio and video pauses and was hoping it was not my 622 going bad or was it coming from the programming or Dish side? Anyone else get the pause issues last night during the show?

Really, funny (and not you) but people bash the heck out of D* HD line up but I get the same (minus) Starz HD, A&E, MHD Nat Geo but get HDNet and HDNet movies.

Yeah, and Comcast just added MHD, A&E and NatGeo in our area. Only real advantage they had for awhile was local HD. Supposedly adding Food and HGTV soon, but we'll see.

They've gotten a lotta heat in Chicago for moving 30 channels to the digital tier, but people need to understand progress is coming whether they like it or not. Comcast really needs to add HDNET and HDNET Movies.

I say to E*, D*, Comcast and TWC: "Do whatever you need to and add all the HD you can".

I did not see it. Ive seen some programming lately on Disc that has macroblocking, kinda like what you get on UnivHD. I saw it on the first night of Planet Earth and decided not to watch it anymore, just went with the Netflix BR version so I can watch it at a high PQ.

1000.2 LNB on a 1000+ DISH?

Adding HD receiver
