DISH without a receiver - how is this possible?

Remember that the big question was how someone could do such a system in their home.

You ignore that having an MDU setup carries with it the requirement of contracting for MDU service.
Just a FYI.
There's a HOME ' bout 10 miles from here with a pdi based D rack in it.
No contract ( maintained or other wise).
Needed? No
Just is.

Oh.... and not 5 figures either but 4.

[QUOTE="Hall, post: 3606744, member: 2709 ? It's a specialized "box" or multiple boxes that contains multiple tuners, I would presume.[/QUOTE]
No ( short answer)
Simple basic 1 tuner box(s)

More than likely the system is analog, with a receiver and modulator for each channel.

I doubt they have a dish smart box as those systems start around $40,000, and even if they have the money I wouldn't install that garbage anyways as it puts a dish watermark on all the channels to get around the encryption restrictions.

Two ways you can tell what type of system this is..

1) look at the room count. If it's a 20-60 room facility it's likely SD as an HD system would be more cost effective to put a receiver in every room.

2) look at the channel numbers. If you see 2,3,4,5,6 then it's likely SD. anything like 2.1 2.2 3.1 3.2 then it's digital.

The number I heard wasn't that high, but it was certainly well into the five figure range.
