I meant it has basic service, for free.

3 day guide, timed recordings etc.

lacks name based and season pass.

still would be nice for friends

thanks but those have no service. tivo basic boxes came with limited free service.

wish tivo still offered life time...... i would give that in a heart beat

Over the holidays they were offering lifetime for the hd tivos. My buddy bought two HDTivos with lifetime for himself for Christmas.
