I always do. I'll set them to tape and then start watching 1 hour after tipoff/kickoff/first pitch. No commercials. For me, its a great way to watch. The only drawback is if you get a phone call from somebody wanting to talk about a play and you're 1/2 hour behind.

Good question. And very debatable too.

I don't like to DVR sports for some reason. I feel as if I don't get the full effect if I don't watch in "real time". Either that, or somehow I just know I'll see a score or hear the neighbor screaming and it will spoil everything for me. I want to find out the outcome and witness the plays as they unfold at the stadium the same time.

I did however recently have to DVR a big game (Bama vs. Florida). The wife dragged me to see The Rockettes (actually pretty good). Anyways, we went to dinner afterwards and the game was on in the backround. I was so caught up on trying not to look at the TV and avoided all updates throughout the day. It was torture.

I don't normally do that, but I definitely miss my DVR when I'm at someone's house who doesn't have one and I can't roll the game back to create my own instant replays. My son had some friends over during Wes Welker's hit in the Steeler game and we replayed that one a few times.... :D

I do DO that often. Awesome DVR advantage. As soon as a commercial hits though, I have to catch up to real-time.

My mom doesn't have a DVR. When we're watching a game at her house someone will always ask to rewind so we can see something again. Then we have to be reminded we're watching live TV like savages and cannot rewind.

I don't usually DVR sports, since I'm usually jumping back and forth from game to game. The exception is when I'm watching the Rangers. I like to be behind, since when the Rangers get scored on I'm always so annoyed I fast forward right through the celebrations and replays to the drop of the puck.

I will take this back to the days of the VHS player. I stopped recording sports, because my team seemed like It would always lose. I know, I know...Its just a superstition of mine, so no I dont DVR

Though...I do have a loop hole...lol, If I know I will be back in, as a game is wrapping up, I will put it on the channel before I leave and use the buffer feature to catch the last few minutes!

Also during an NFL instant replay review...I will do my own review and make my ruling!!

I almost always DVR NFL games. As soon a a play is over, I hit the 30 second skip forward button and the QB is just about ready to take the next snap.

If an NHL game starts at 7, I DVR it so we can watch the 7 pm news. Then I can fast forward through the two intermissions.

I do the same thing. :up

I DVR all early morning Soccer games featuring Manchester United. This morning the game was on at 4:30am CST. I also, dvr the Champions Leauge games in the afternoon as i am at work. Like the above person said the only draw back is sometime if I do not get a chance to watch it before I go out with friends they may tell you what happened.

I know I might be an old geezer even though I'm 26 but I use... a VCR. I know, I know a DVR is probably better but I probably wouldn't know how to work one. When you tape on VCR, I have the copy of the game. As far as commercials, I just pause it when they go to break. I grew up literally with a VCR, so maybe I'm just used to it.

I record a ton of games so I can watch them later

now if its my college team (Mn Duluth Bulldogs) dont care if they win or lose I still have them on disc.

I'll pause a game live for what ever reason and catch up passing commercials but if I record a game because I can't watch it live I usually hear who won and that takes all the fun out of it for me and will just delete it.

Dude, what are you going to do when your VCR finally kicks the bucket? I don't even know if they still make them.

HD MM, don't jinx it!!! I think they still make them. I mean what am I going do. Get a DVD Player. I don't know how to work a DVD player. Not only that it's better to have something on tape. I mean if you tape a tv show or a sports show a) IF the show is put on DVD you have to pay an arm and a leg for it. B) A lot of sports shows/games are not on DVD. If you want to see last year's Super Bowl, either you tape the full game or your out of luck. As far as tv shows, you have to deal with a lot. Sometimes, they delete scenes. Anything with music gets cut out because they don't have the rights fees and sometimes some of the shows are too expensive to put on DVD.
So in a nutshell, I'm just safer with a VCR.

Your 26 years old and you don't know how to work a DVD player? And I would argue that your not safe with VHS as it will soon be obsolete.

I'm 27 and I used to be the same way (about 12 years ago). I used to be into the whole "having a physical form of record". But the downfalls in buying tapes, having the film getting tangled in the player and god awful quality led me to the next form of media. (DVD and now Blu-Ray).

As for DVR's, don't be scared. Even though you don't have a physical copy you can hold in your hand, you can save the recording on the DVR's hard drive and watch it in a click of a button whenever you want.

And how do you watch movies? Does your local movie rental store still rent out VHS? I know my Blockbuster doesn't rent VHS nor does my Best Buy sell them. (Sorry, sorry. I don't mean to get on you or anything. I just find this fascinating). :)

I DVR NFL games. The NFL,IMO,is unwatchable with all the commercials that are shown. I can pause my DVR for 30 minutes or so. Come back and start watching and pretty much get through a half without having to view a silly commercial. I also do this for this NCAA tournament. Way too many commercials to sit through and to able to enjoy watching a game.

I'll admit that its tough for me to start watching an NFL game 1 hour after it starts.......I can't check my Fantasy scores because I dont want to be spoiled, wont answer the phone, etc.....But, not having to sit through all the commercials is well worth it. As far as NBA and MLB goes, I almost can't watch them live.....I love getting through the game in 1 1/2 - 2 hours.

If I go out to dinner or something, I don;t even bother trying to tape the game anymore. It's almost impossible not to glance at a TV or overhear somebody talking about the game.

When I read your first post, I glazed over the part when you said you're 26....I pictured you as 70 until HD's post :) :) :)

If you can work a VCR, you'll be able to work a DVD player and DVR and you'll be much happier. :) :)
