For 6.1 Dolby sound......a person has to have atleast 3 rear surround speakers....but it's best to have 4 rear surround speakers..which would be left&right surrounds ...then left& right rear suuounds......your Dolby receiver then sends the Dolby sound to the left/right surrounds and sends a Matrix sound field to the back surrounds!!!!I have a Harmon Karden 7.1 system .....and have watched 6.1 Disrete movies and IT WILL CREATE AN EXTRA SOUND FIELD ....which will make your jaw drop the first time your hear it!!!!!!.....P.S. A person has to have a Receiver that is able to decode the Dolby 6.1/7.1 sound.......hope this helps......by the way when I first purchased the 7.1 system I thought there would eventually be 2 seperate sound fields availible to the rear back speakers.......it does not excist......will it ever ...I'm not sure?!
