Just to get the message across to Dish that their VOOM garbage is not enough and we want NEW HD. We do not want to pay $20 for LESS channels than you can get with DirecTV for $10.....

When the dust settles, we'll be switching to the dishHD (only) which means we''ll be saving more than a measly $10 bucks and getting MORE HD not less

AND we will be sending Dish and the content providers the message that we will not continue to support hundreds of SD channels of junk.

I suggest when you downgrade you tell the representative that the lack of new HD channels is the reason.

I like Voom-Rave is showing the new season of the UK's Jools Holland-by far the best music show on TV. Rave is a fantastic channel!

I like Voom-Rave is showing the new season of the UK's Jools Holland-by far the best music show on TV. Rave is a fantastic channel!

It is [Austin city limits is a by far the best also] but they rarely show any "New" Jool's (though this week they had a 2007 episode)... go out and look at all the guests on all the seasons, very few have been on, repeating the same ones over and over..
still the white stripes hasn't been on, it is a fantastic episode.. saw most of jools new stuff on Youtube/metafilter/torrents...

soundstage is great also but repeating over and over... sheryl crow again!!! lindsey buckingham again!!!! New content would seem easy as they have all the concert footage?...

Game channel is good too but they can't afford any of the new games like me... too many old games... lack of content is obvious on that channel...

I called yesterday to downgrade to HP Essential. They did not say anything about a $5 downgrade fee and I did not ask.

I just checked my recent activity, and it appears they have made the adjustment correctly:

Dish has about 11 million + customers who only have and only want to have SD channels for the foreseeable future. I think they are sending Dish and the content providers a message as well.

I realize that SD is currently the dominant format for TV and it probably will be for some time.

The "message" I'd like to emphasize with Dish and TV content providers is that many of the folks who have invested in HD equipment don't see HD as an "add on" to SD anymore.

Until yesterday Dish made ALL HD subscribers pay for a least 100 SD channels just to get ANY HD. And we had to subscribe to 250 channels of SD to get the full suite of "non-premium" HD. The new dishHD (only) package allows us to pay for HD content without carrying the SD baggage As more people make the switch to HD Only, the SD revenue stream will get smaller. Someday it might even dry up to a mere trickle
