Hey all, I did a search to see if I coud find any posts about folks using the raysat antenna, as I am getting one installed on an RV this month. Unfortunately, I didn't find that much info so I figured I'd start a new thread.

I called and spoke to the folks at Dish regarding the requirements and having to use the 311 reciever, and they basically said the 311 works better as it freezes the screen instead of blanking out when a signal loss is encountered. other than that there were no reasons not to use a 622. (other than the obvious issue regarding the hard drive spinning if we hit a pothole or something...)

According to both Dish and the raysat folks, I should be able to get all of the sattelites I need for the full programming (including HD) and it will work well during motion, as long as we're not under something (tree, bridge, etc).

Is this realistic? I'm bracing myself for a dissapointment...

Anyone have any real world experience with one of these?

The reason why they want you to use the 311 is because they have special software for it so when you go under a bridge or tree you will only loose signal for a few seconds.

Any other receiver such as a 622 would go to a 015 accuiring satellite signal message, and then it goes through 5 steps to re-accuire the signal which could take up to 30 seconds for the picture to come back in.

If your going to park it, then your fine with the 622, if your going to use it in motion alot then you really need a 311.

This is how it was explained to me, I might be wrong but im pretty certain this is correct!

right, Iknew about the screen blanking, and it will be interesting to see how sensitive the array is when I pass under an overpass for attraction of a second...

I'm just wondering how well I can expect the phased array to hold onto the signal when making turns and such...

bump. just want to keep this topic up for a few days. can't believe with all the installers and such here that no one has ever used one of these...

Yeah, I'm not finding any hands-on info anywhere, which means that I will need to keep notes and post into on my experiences for others...

I could live for a 1 second picture loss but a 30 seconds screen showing
"acquisition is in progress" everytime you go under an overpass is unacceptable but not having a DVR is unacceptable to.

quick question what kind of line of sight you need ??? straight up in the air ???

Well, I would imagine that the line of sight requirements wouldn't be any different... the satellites are in the same place no matter what type of dish you are using. this one just doesn't need to be pointed.

what does dish pay for a standard install?
