Explain the 3.0 debate (likely scenarios)

Let's take tonight's Chiefs v Chargers game, for example. There's no good reason why this game shouldn't be OTA. Anywhere except Kansas City and Los Angeles, you have to watch it on YouTube. If you're in one of those two cities, you can watch it over the air. Absolutely stupid. Show it on both platforms to reach the widest audience if you want.

In the USA, probably nobody, but you'd be surprised how popular those are for people outside the country. Even now that the UK, Australia and Canada have started or restarted their own various versions of Jeopardy, Wheel and Family Feud, the US versions are highly requested on sites for downloading media. Same for Survivor, Amazing Race, The Voice, Idol, DWTS etc…some people like to see all the versions from around the world or just compare them to their own versions.

If the current chairman is sincere about what he stated a few years back about carving up more UHF TV, it could hasten the end of OTA TV as we know it. They could potentially sell off one last chunk of spectrum and distribute out a few channels to the current lighthouse set up, which would mean you'd point your antenna at a few towers and get all of your stations from one market, or they sell off the remaining UHF spectrum and force stations to go to streaming unless they want to fight over the small VHF spectrum.

Congressional leaders met a few months back about utilizing more spectrum for 6G because you know we have to beat China. Who knows, maybe Carr might suggests carving up UHF TV because we need it so bad for keeping ahead in the mobile market dominance or something?

Just yesterday about this time there were severe weather warnings scrolling on TV with possible tornado developments nearby. Had 3.0 been running with DRM I never would have seen them. Thankfully no severe weather occurred here other than heavy thunderstorm activity.

The logic is that OTA TV is a major avenue for Emergency Broadcasting and if the channels are DRM'd and your ATSC 3.0 tuner can't display them, it is a public information fiasco and possibly illegal.

I figure he's saying that if 3.0 and its drm was the norm with no 1.0 like certain broadcasters want it in a few years, he would've missed those weather warnings completely.

Yes I do subscribe to pay services, but the real thing is USA's free over the air programs containt is more restricted than European's free over the air containts on F words and nudity.

The FCC's mindset is so out of touch in 21st century world since we are not in 1970's anymore!

never thought id'e see this!!! our neighbors next door bought a GE fridge and when they bought a new water filter it wasn't a GE model but a knockoff that claimed to work in that model fridge. when they installed it the fridge would not dispense water since the filter wasn't a GE branded filter and they have DRM in the filters!!! reminds me of someone elses corperate greed like HP and DRM chips in cartridges!!! F DRM it's all about corperate greed..

TRUE!!! more and more will be lighting there hair on fire after it happens to them!!! I think there gonna use astc 3.0 as a money grab since stations are losing viewership. they will need to buy a converter box if there t,v, don't have the tuner built in or buy a new t,v, for that matter. then in time i bet they will charge a monthly fee to view the staitions and even toss other subs in there like espn plus for people to sub to!!! i can't think of anyone in my right mind that would want to pirate soaps and the six oclock news along with crappy talk shows!!!
