This is to reflect the costs associated with providing all the features that come with the Hopper.

Bull***t - what features has the Hopper had added ?

What this means is either a) Dish sucked people in with every intention of raising these fees later or b) someone seriously miscalculated the costs associated with the Hopper/Joey (hehe, or it's 'a' and 'b' !!).

Nothing personal either, Tommy - I understand you're just stating the company's explanation.

DirectTV charges $25.00 Advanced receiver fee (HR-34)
$6.00 for each additional TV.

You would need:
Genie (HR-34 / 44) - $25.00
HR-24 - $6.00
HR-24 - $6.00
HR-24 - $6.00
HR-24 - $6.00
TOTAL - $49.00 in fees.

Total of 13 tuners (if they will do that many).

They do charge $6.00 for the first TV but then give you a credit for $6.00. I don't know if that's forever or the 24 month contract.

EDIT - Just noticed they give a $10.00 credit for Advanced Receiver if you have auto pay. That's for 24 months. So, $39 in monthly fees.

Uproar away. Dish has made this decision and that's that.
This is why there are contracts. So the provider can increase prices with impunity and for no apparent reason. Then they can flip the bird to their pissed off customers.

I sincerely hope Charlie Ergen,Joe Clayton,and whomever is responsible for the new fees get to read this thread.Even the most loyal of Dish customers are going to have an issue with these exorbitant fees.

Not sure what hare brained idiot came up with this idea.. Hoppers have been hard enough for me to push as it was.. 722 just has a better value. Now I won't be able to bring my self to push a hopper sale on anyone.. Get a clue Dish.. People are hurting out here.. They don't need more fees.

An ideal solution on Directv for a 6 tv configuration would be 1 genie, 2 clients, 1 hr24 & 2 h25. This is a doable scenario. Can't recall out of pocket expense off the top of my head, but it would be a whole home solution. The only drawback would be the h25's wouldn't have the ability to pause live tv.

Thank you. Definitely something to consider when the contract is up. So basically Dish costs more in receiver fees regardless of how many tuners.

Think about it,wasn't the HWS available after the price increase?More upgrades,more 2 year contracts.The more I think about it,the more it irks me,and we don't even have hoppers.Sometimes I just don't understand what Dish is thinking.

Good point. HwS wasn't enough of an upgrade to justify the double in fees! Wow, Dish really had it all figured out.

With over 2 million hoppers deployed, probably more realistic 2 1/2 to 3 million they are in a very good position to have a serious cash infusion with this increase.

Wonder if this increase has anything to do with the possible sprint merge?

What kind of insurance do you have? My insurance here is the same way I need to meet the $2500 deductible, then after that everything is covered. My insurance has been that way here for almost 10 years.

My wife works for a large bank...Our health insurance just went to $2500 per year per person deductible.
Well care is free. Well care is stuff such as checkup's physical exams. PSP, And the dreaded colonoscopy....Which I have to go through here pretty soon.

why would you want to?...Unless a person has a huge house. Then you'd just want individual receivers anyway.
