Finding your true South in Quebec ?

Yep, I would put it in the middle, peak the signal then trying moving it closer and further away from the dish to get the exact focal point, every point of signal quaility counts when it starts to rain/snow

I'am back today monday on the roof. Nothing but rain in the forecast these days, what a summer.. bummer. There are clouds but chance of rain so I'am trying to finish my setup.

My dish is installed with no motor and angled at 38 degrees and leveled.
Connected RG6U cable to receiver and to L from QPH-031 lnb.
LNB pushed farthest away from dish & clamp.

Pansat 3500SD setup screen is as follow:
Set on AMC6...
LNB Type = Standard
LNB Frequency = 10750
22KHZ = OFF
Diseqc = OFF
Skew = 0
TP = (1) 11802-2000
Positionner setting = 1.2
Satellite scan = FTA+Scramble
Scan Level = 73-74
Quality Signal = 0

There is only one a big tree and it is in the true south direction and it might obstruct my view.

With a good compass heading true south or close 185-195 azimut I get nothing by moving as little as possible and waiting for the quality signal to come up.

Any advice on my screen menu setting that might help?
M'Not sure if TP setting of 11802 is OK and skew and so forth.

I'am very patient and my landlord is assisting me hold that latter wich I hate btw lol

How that does transfer in the Pansat menu?
Would that be:

You are saying V as polarity correct...
How do I change that in the menu? In wich user setting would that be?
I didn't see V as an option on receiver menu.
Would that be accessible as parameters in the positioner setting option?

I do not have that receiver, it will be in transponder manager or antenna set up.

Depending on where you are I would think about using another satellite........

Can I use a stronger singal like 91 from bell and then mount motor on antenna and then use 1.2 disceq to do a blind scan to find the others? Labgate did that I think...

I'am just trying to finalise installation, if you say another sat might help me.

You can use a stromnger DBS satellite but you will have to fine tune on a linear satellite for KU signals.

Well Pete I'am not giving up on installation... yet.
I will try again after lunch.
I would prefer to find my true south sat though instead of looking at other birds I don't want that a scrambled channels.
Not my goal
I have read a 3500sd thread and I know now how to edit a tp with 3500sd.
I will keep you guys posted.

Hello

Honestly the best thing to do is use a strong satellite like nimiq 1 at 91.

You first configure elevation and declination.

You configure your receiver to use usals, you enter your longitude and longitude. Then the motor will go to where it is suppose to go to get 91. Even if you don't want scrambled channels, because you have an lnb that support it use those strong sats, it will be easier for the first time. If you want to verify reception, there are free channels on nimiq 91 (like channel 198, you will see when you scan that they don't have the dollar sign in front of them.

You have also a couple of 119. I think it is call dnfyi, again it won't have the dollar sign in front.

You then adjust the dish to have the best signal with nimiq 1.

Then you use 2 other strong sats (echostar 3 at 61.5) and (echostar 7 at 119).

They will allow you to adjust your arc. You play with the adjustment on the antenna if you are too high or too low.

Again you have to make sure that the post is exactly plumb.

Insure that the motor is. Sometimes I saw people with post perfectly plumb but the motor was not on the post. I will not work this way.

So after that you to from 61.5 to 119 and verify that you have great signal. You make adjustments.

Then after that you try with other sats linear ( I usually try t5 at 97, e9 at 121 and amc5 at 79.

One you did the fine tune with those sats you should be ok. You can even erase what you found on the strong sats if you want to have a clean installation, or do a factory reset.

Usals is very great to help you adjust motors, I always adjust them this way, I don't really work with my true south anymore, only to adjust in the beginning I place the dish and the motor at 0 degrees where I think my true south is approximatively.

but that wont be in there (channel is too new)

ICE thought that comment regarding my fear of falling off a latter had kept you away from posting on this thread.... Glad to hear your back because we share almost the same receiver and I need all the pro's opinion on my install.

But I must admit now I should have done more reading.
I did about 95 pages reading this week-end (avsforum) on a home theater screen setup for my dish to work with and I shouldhavputta lotta more hours on reading the how to set UP my dish.

But now it's back to work :
I expect rain to get here in an hour or two from now.... quick quick.
