After fighting the saga of the HH90 and the Winegard 76cm (they don't work together) I was getting annoyed at the whole thing and near ready to take my brand new Fortec Classic NA and throw it in the lake.

Tonight, I figured I HAD to do something with that new toy, so I took a (twin LNB) Dish 500, threw it on a tripod and pointed in the general direction of 110w.

I turned on the Fortec and had a 86% signal the first try. :) :) :)

Did a scan and lo and behold I was on the right bird.

I'm watching soccer as we speak! :D

Yeah, it was good shooting but it was rigged... I can point a D* Phase 3 with my eyes closed I've done it so many times since Katrina. (That's actually why I used the Dish 500 and picked 110w)

Anyway, still no motor but at least I'm not playing Tetris any more.

was that 86% quality?

Good job! I've aimed so many DBS dishes I just aim near the spot and usually it's pretty strong :)

Duh- I dunno. :D

I get an orange bar when I go into the antenna setup and if hit the info button twice the bar is green. I suspect it is quality since the picture is perfect. (well not on GOL all the time, but on the advertisements. - I assume Gol is what it is.) I looked in that paper thing they euphemistically call documentation and did not see what the colors meant.

I'm actually triple lucky. This morning I played with it again and I see I'm actually punching thru a few thin branches from a neighbor's tree. I also tried the other LNB and it appears dead. My signal meter is melting (even turned down) but I can't get anything on the receiver. If I had tried the wrong cable (LNB) last night, it would have been more frustration.

I'm lucky I got 1 out of 2 good LNBs... The Dish the LNBs came from was banged to heck and I noticed this morning the reflector had boot prints on it. (Probably rescue workers crawing on the rubble pile looking for survivors.) I had to take the LNBs off that dish and put it on a decent Dish Pro dish that I had from a house that flooded.

I'm bringing ghetto FTA to a whole new level. :D

Katrinasucks,
You prefer FTA over Tetris?
Changing bar colors - I got excited (sort of) when I read that you had done this. I went to try it on mine, but I can't seem get it to work. When I'm in the channel viewing mode, I can get a small red and green bar (Which I never knew that I could do). A red bar for no signal (For some reason I'm locked on channels that don't seem to be there) and a green bar for good channels. No big alignment bar though.
My current alignment technique is to set up our big television in the window inside, and use binoculars to see what the bar is doing while I'm outside. It's quite a pain. Red and green would really help.
Maybe you could come to Pennsylvania and align my dish for me? :) I'm doing it about twice a week now.

Hope that you like your NA as much as I do mine.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean... What do you get when go to the "antenna set-up" secection?

I get a bar that takes nearly the whole bottom of the screen.

Katrinasucks,
Sorry, I don't think that I was very clear on that. On the "antenna setup" screen I get the long bar that goes about 3/4 of the length of the screen. It's red or orange (yellow to me) depending on the signal quality. (The yellow indicates a quality signal) Can't seem to change those colors. If I'm in viewing mode (a regular TV picture) I can get a very small red and green bar in the upper right hand side of the screen. I get this by pushing the info button twice while viewing a station.
I can get by now with the colors that I currently have. Since I've been experimenting a lot with alignment, it's gotten easier for me. Even so, it would still be nice to change colors.
I wonder if the firmware might be different in our two receivers? (It seems like mine acts differently than yours when I push the info button.) Probably not though, it's most likely human error on my part.
Sure wish the manual had a little more information.

Thanks for your help.
